Can you resize an engraved ring without messing up what it says? The ring will be sized a bit smaller (around half a size) and has a very long engraving on it.

Thanks!

it depends on the ring and how well the original engraving was done. Is it an engagement ring/ring with a stone or a solid band? A solid band could be easily "squeezed" down half a size and if the engraving is done well it should be ok. If it's not a solid band, or if the engraving is light, you'll probably need to have it re-engraved.

You might want to consider sizing beads instead of having the ring resized. Mine was about half a size too big and I took it to Roman Jewelers and they just put two small beads on the inner part of the ring. They match the color of the ring and are hardly noticeable. The ring doesn't feel any different on my finger. We bought the ring there, so it didn't even cost anything. It has really worked out well...I didn't have to resize my ring and it doesn't slip off my finger anymore! :)
