Residence Inn Garden Grove

Has anyone stayed here lately? We are thinking of staying here in Oct. Are the 2 bedroom suites as big as they look online?

We stayed there in November. We had the two bedroom suite with bunkbeds. They were nice sized and the two bathrooms work well for our family. I would give them two thumbs up.

We stayed there in May 2006 (I know you said recent though) and had the 2 room suite with bunk beds like the PP said. The suite was large and had a kitchen. Plus they had hot yummy breakfast with make your own Mickey waffles. We really enjoyed that hotel. 2 thumbs up for me too!!

We stayed there in Oct. 2006 and had the 2 bedroom bunk bed suite. It was great and we will be staying there again in March.

We love that hotel. We've been staying there everytime we go to Disneyland for the last few years and have always had a great experience. Last time we went to Disney in August for the Disneyland Half Marathon weekend, we decided to give the Residence Inn Maingate a try. I didn't like that place quite as much. It was a little older, our room seemed poorly lit, we had constant bugs in our room, and the a/c never worked.

I would definitely recommend the Garden Grove location, though! I just booked another reservation for there for next month.

It was fabulous when we stayed there in September. My only complaint is that the pull out couch bed is not very comfy. We put the mattress on the floor and it was much better. The living area is a bit small, but there was definitely enough room for all 6 of us. And 2 bathrooms was really nice. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic as well. We would stuff ourselves then, and then just need a late lunch/early dinner at DL and then snacks later at night.

I just booked this hotel for 3 nights in March. We have never stayed here before, but I got a "too good to pass up" gov't rate on a 1 bedroom suite. Can anyone tell me if it's too long a walk to the entrance of DL. Also, has anyone ever upgraded from a 1 br to a 2 br suite? I really wanted the 2 br, but they didn't have the gov't rate on that one.

IMO, it is too far to walk. We booked a one bedroom through Expedia and were able to upgrade to the two bedroom for an extra $10 a night once we got there.

ART stops right outside. And it only makes one other stop. So it's super easy to take and fairly quick.

That's good to hear (about the upgrade) I hope we are able to. Is it easier to take ART or to just drive and park? How much is ART and where do you buy the passes for it? We've only ever stayed at the DL hotel, or right across the street, so I'm not famaliar with it. Our last few Disney trips have been to WDW though, which takes a long time to get from place to place, so I figure even if we're not within walking distance it will still be easier to get around than it is at WDW.

We prefered ART sometimes, driving others. We booked a package through AAA and were able to buy a family ART pass for $38 (for 6 of us) which was good the whole 5 days we were there. Not sure what daily passes run. We also got free parking with our AAA parkhoppers. You can look up info on ART here: http://www.rideart.org/info.html .

Can anyone tell me if the 2 bedroom suites have doors? The photos look like the King room has a door but the bunk room does not. Is that true?

Also what time do they serve evening snacks? What time are the kids movies? Are the movies every night one Friday and Saturday nights? The parks close at 5:00 (disney has not posted their schedule yet but other parks have) so we are looking for something easy to do at night.

Sorry to hear that. We have stayed there numerous times and never aproblem. We mostly walked to and from the park. The staff was alway attentive and the managers very helpful. I hope you complained.

My cousin stayed in a 2 room suite there, and I thought that suite was kind of small compared to other 2-bedroom suites I've seen there.

I would recommend that you tell them that you do not want one of the smaller suites.

We've had much better experiences at RI Garden Grove than RI Maingate. I think it's too far too walk -- bu ART is right there. The only negative is that they are a little short on parking -- so if you get back late on a busy night, you could have a tough time finding a spot.

The Garden Grove bunkbed room does have a door. If I remember right, it is a pocket door, so that might be why it doesn't look like there is one in the photo. We never made it back for the evening snacks or movies. CA closes at 6pm at the earliest and DL's earliest closing is normally 8pm. Why are they closing at 5?

CA and DL have not posted their times yet. We are planning to go in September. All the other parks (knott's, six lfags, sea world, universal) all close early. I know DH and I will be beat and just want to lounge so the movie and snacks sounded like something we could go w/o to much energy.
