Reserving rooms online

Does anyone know when you will be able to reserve rooms/packages for early 2009 on the Disney World website? Right now, it says that you can only make reservations through Dec. 31, 2008.

I e-mailed Disney about this and was told that the new packages and pricing for 2009 would be set this summer. I was told that booking online would be possible at that time. I know that I have read that it is possible to reserve a room up to 500 days in advance, but I don't know how to do that. I'm hoping that someone on these boards can provide some insight.

The next year's rates are typically released late summer. It is possible to book a room-only reservation ahead of the new rates and packages. When the new rates come out, you call back to add your package components.

Please note that Disney will also adjust your amount due to compensate for increased room rates.

wish it was like the disney cruise line where you could book your reservation out a year or more in advance.

I'm assuming that you must call to book a rooom-only reservation prior to the release of the 2009 packages. I'm just wondering why this option was not offered when I called or when I e-mailed to inquire about when I could book my vacation for March 2009. Is there a particular number to call to book this far in advance?
