I’m about a month out from scheduling a couples Disney trip for early next October. We’ve never split stayed, but are considering it for this trip. We want two days for F&W, and I’d prefer to stay at a Epcot resort the first two nights (Wed/Thu) to support easy access to and from the International Gateway entrance. We are planning to stay at our (monorail) home resort for the final three nights (Fri-Sun) for the MK portion and some resort time. I’m certainly booking those nights at the 11 month point. I’ll have points left over (from 2023 points rolling over next fall) for those other two nights. That said, I’d have to wait 4 months to book those first two nights, and I’d need Riviera to have those two days available at the 7 month point…in early October.

Alternately, I can rent points at RIV (or BC, which we rented at two years ago and loved) at around the same time and not risk it. But then I‘d still have some points sitting around (with no other trip planned to use them at this time). Worst case, we‘d just take whatever we could at 7 months if RIV (or BW, or anywhere) if we don’t rent. Just curious about whether it’s impossible, unlikely, likely, or probable to get RIV at 7 months (during the week), so I can plan. We’d prefer RIV since we never stayed there. I guess I could also book the home resort for all five nights and then try to convert them at the 7 month point. Just looking for some advice from more experienced DVCers. Thank you!

October F&W time is very competitive for near-Epcot resorts. I’d book your home for the entire stay, but book it as two reservations according to what you hope for. (Each reservation will have its own booking window.) Then at 7 months you can try to modify to RIV and if not available, waitlist. If you don’t get it, you can ask MS to merge the two home resort reservations into a single one.

Book the two 11 month reservations with slightly different guests so that MS won’t merge them before you want them to. You can update guests later.

I think you have a chance to get a PV room at RIV at 7 months SV will be tough.

Given you only want two nights, I think your chances are good even if you had to waitlist.

Plus, as sales happen, DVD will declare more rooms which helps waitlist to fill!
