reservations with fan club card

I apologize in advance as this is probably a dumb question.

When making reservations, do you have to wait for fan club rates (as with ap)? Is there a difference in the time frame in which you can make reservations?
I called the regular Universal number and was told I could book likely 16 months in advance. When I received my Fan Club Card (Thank you TinkerBarb), I called the Fan Club number and they told me I could only book 6 months in advance. So I didn't know if I was supposed to book a reservation through rack rate, then ask to apply Fan Club at 6 months.
Sorry to be so dimwitted. Must be all the snow still in Canada!

I'd love to know the answer to this also. We're planning a March 2004 trip and would like to book with the best rate ASAP.

The fan club rates probably only come out with a six month window. You can book at any rate they give you and then change the reservation. The only problem is that they will charge you the first night at your original rate for the deposit. Then when you get a new rate they will refund the first and then charge you again at the new rate. However, if the exchange rates change in the meantime, you can be refunded less than you originally paid ( that happened to us). Make sure that if you get your rate changed you tell them no to refund and recharge but just to credit your account with the original amount paid. This way you have just made a larger downpayment and not lost anything with the exchange rate.

fyi...I got the Fan Club rate well over 6 months from our trip! We're going in December and I've had the rate of $129 for a pool view for at least 2 months already!
