it is my understanding that DVC members get 25% off rack rates at DVC locations. Can the owner make the ressie for someone else, or do they have to be present? Also, who does this actually include?

Rack rates for cash ressies are insane! Last I looked OKW was around $670 and everything else well over $700 per night! Instead of paying 25% off, maybe you should look into renting at $10-12 per point. If I recall, the discount is only good for the DVC member and their household so they would need to be the one to check in.

It is only for the owner AND the owner must be physically staying in the unit that received the discount. DVC cites an example where if you have some family staying on points in two bedroom and then you also get the 25% discount on another villa, they expect the owner to actually be staying the unit paid for by cash.

I just booked 2 nts at Vero Beach today, paying cash for 1 of the nights. It was $225/nt + tax and with the discount went down to $168 + tax -- not too bad!

I am going to agree. We have a two bedroom villa for $450 on Fri/Sat nite. Renting points would have been more. It worked well for us and we don't have to move out.

if you are making res and not using pts. you might want to watch for special promotional offers. they pop up on tv, in travel sectiion of the newspaper, in your offers from disney visa, and even sometimes on the internet. you would need to look for the promo code because without the code you don't get the deal. some of these prices are really terrific but you usually have to make your res. during a certain time period.

I worked this up before. Paying cash with the member discount on Fri/Sat nights works out more cheaply for OKW and SSR stays. Renting points is cheaper at VWL/BCV/BWV.
