Reservations through the DVC

We are thinking about buying a DVC membership, but I'm concerned about being able to book a room. How far in advance do you need to make reservations in order to get each specific resort? If AKL is our home resort, will it be easy for us to get reservations at other resorts? Thanks!

At your home resort you can book 11 months in advance. When booking at other resorts it is 7 months.

It all depends on the time of year and what you are looking for. Busy times for DVC do not follow the typical Disney busy times.

But...as an AKV owner, you probably wouldn't have too much of a problem booking a room at the 11 month window. AKV is going to be fairly big.

You can't make a reservation at another resort until the 7 month window. At particularly busy times, it may be extremely difficult to get a room at the smaller resorts (BCV, BWV, VWL), depending on room type, etc.

For example, for Food&Wine, a lot of rooms are already booked at BCV and BWV because they are close to Epcot. I called at the 7 month window, and all studios were gone, but there were a couple of 1BRs at BCV left. I was actually surprised they were available at all - I've heard its tough for the owners there to get rooms at the 11 month window...

Other than when we first purchased and booked a couple of trips, we are thinking WAY ahead on our next stays...so we book our home resort at 11 months and then if we want to we try and switch at 7 months.

Inside 7 months chances of getting a room diminish regardless of your home resort, how fast depends on how busy it is for DVC (as previously mentioned, DVC seasons do not match standard Disney seasons).
