I'm going to Disneyland the third week in July with my mom for three nights. Before making our reservations, we went through EVERY hotel to find the best deal. We were hoping to stay at the Marriott, but it's booked solid. We ended up booking at the Tropicana. Whole package 700 bucks. For the SAME trip and SAME amount of time, if we had stayed at the Grand Californian it would of been $1,500. NO WAY I SAY!! For the heck of it, I went to DisneyWORLD's website, and for only 250 bucks more (from the price of three nights at GR) we could of stayed at a moderate hotel near WDW for FIVE days and the price included airfare. So is it really worth it to spend a fortune and stay at an overly priced hotel? I don't think so.

Package deals are typically not worth it for Disneyland.
I'm paying $75.65 a night at HoJo's for Disney view 2 queen and $169 per adult for 5 day passes (changing to APs for an extra $40.. next trip will be cheap!). $208 per person for air fare from MN (MSP to SNA).

Tropicana is kinda "eh" from what I have read on other boards and Trip Advisor reviews.

Think of the Grand Californian as a deluxe at WDW. It is very upscale and gorgeous.. you are paying for the location (right inside of DCA) and for the extra amenities (turn down service, themed pool).

This yr is different for hotel rates- no deals offered due to the 50th and expected larger crowds.. I have picked up $45 Entertainment rates at HoJo's in the past.. none offered this yr.

Third week of July is the 15th thru the 21st. The 17th is DisneyLand's actual 50th Anniversary. Not only are the hotels all sold out, but there will be entry restrictions.
