I've read these boards over and over and still am a little confused. Here's the story. I plan on a trip the beginning of January, staying in POR with the dining plan.Have never done dining plan so I am not sure how to make reservations. The question I have is to get on the dining plan do you have to pay rack rate or is this just for the free dining plan? If so do you book room only or have to get the magic your way package with tickets and all? I am a AAA member and think you can get a discount through them. Do you book the whole thing(room, tickets and dining) through them or once you get reservations do you call Disney and tell them you booked through AAA and want to add dining plan? Also does anyone know if thay ever have specials the first of Jan. or is the special just off season prices?

Thanks in advance, Brad

We used AAA for our First Ever trip this past December. To get the DDP you must book a package. You can get a package including your room and tickets, and then add DDP later, but it's easier to just do it right from the start.

But can you get the discount from AAA and then still get the dining.

Yes; the DDP is not a discount. You pay for it in your package. The only time you can't get AAA rate and dining both is if the dining is free. Then you have to choose 1 discount or the other.

As a AAA member, you book a package with AAA room rate. The package may or may not include dining - you decide that. If it does, it will be priced accordingly. You are required to buy a minimum 1-day MYW base ticket for each person on the package. You may buy more days / better tickets through the package if you want. Or you can stay with the 1-day tickets and upgrade when you arrive at the guest services desk at your hotel or at the parks.

If you decide to add the DDP later, you can up until 3 or 2 days before you check in. Your AAA travel agent would need to do that for you. Any changes or questions about your package would need to go through the TA.

I don't know about any specials for January. Keep watching these boards is the best thing to do. You'd probably find out fastest here.

Hope that helps :)

Maybe I just got lucky but I was still able to keep my AAA room discount and get the free dining. My total package amount was reduced by exactly the amount of the dining plan. (I am whispering this).

I thought I had too, but when I called to check about the price of pkg and to verify everything was correct, my TA discovered they had not included the insurance when the package was changed to apply the free dining. Now, the discount is gone. My TA was very insistent that I got both AAA discount and free dining, but I don't think so. If you break down your price into components, does it come out cheaper than rack rate? Don't forget to apply tax and subtract insurance (if you have it).
