I'm thinking of purchasing DVC through resale soon, and if not thinking about renting points for going to DL in September 2016. My question is if I wanted to secure a reservation (as a member and assuming GF is not my home resort, or through renting points) how likely will there be availability for a 1 bedroom 7 months out? I'm just trying to figure this out before I purchase. I know renting points could save me some $$$ but figured if I'm gonna shell it out to rent then why not considering biting the bullet and buying now.

I just booked 4 nights in a 1 bedroom this week for August 9 to 13. This is before D23, we are moving to Paradise Pier on cash for Thursday to Sunday. We did the same thing 2 years ago (2013).

I also booked studios twice at 7 months - early May 2011 and late September 2012. I did waitlist for another night on that September trip about 3 months before and never got it.

So 4 for 4 at 7 months!

1BR at exactly 7mo is reasonable many times of the year. The Studios (because 1BR use so many points) are much more difficult.
I didn't have a problem booking August 2014 in a 1BR (or June 2013) at GCV.

Labor Day weekend is probably the biggest challenge

We have ownership at GCV. About a month ago, we tried to reserve a studio for June 2015. We were put on a waiting list. It is our fault for waiting so long before reserving, since we could have at 11 months out... (lesson learned). There are not many DVC rooms there, we were told, so that is why if you even think that you want to stay there, book it, IMO. your points will be 'returned' if you decide not use it after all.

Other than Labor Day weekend or if there were a disney event or marathon I think you'd have a very excellent chance for a 1 bedroom in Sept at VGC.

Double whammy - Labor Day weekend is also when they run the DL 1/2 Marathon and associated races.

This is what I'm wondering about... thinking about Star Wars Half over MLK weekend Jan 2016. Probably not much of a chance at 7 months?? :(

FWIW, I successfully booked at GCV two different years for Spring Break at 7 months out with no trouble, no waitlist, no walking.
