I have a AAA rate of $255 for a Garden Room at Portofino. I do have a AAA membership.
I just noticed that we can get a Bay View for $254 with a FAN Club membership. I do have a FAN card, but it was bought on Ebay a while back. We do not have a work membership.
Should I chance it and try to book with the FAN club rate? I have made all of our reservations online.
We are less than two weeks out. Is it too late to make a cancellation and book another type of room without penalties?

Of course it is a risk, but I would think you'd be okay. Someone did post about being asked where they worked and proof, but for the most part, most people are not even asked for the card at checkin.

I wonder what would happen if Universal didn't accept my card at check - in? Would they then charge me the top rate for that weekend or let me take back the AAA rate?

Another question: With the online reservations, the top option for "number of people" in the room is 4. We have five, but only four are adults. When we check - in , will we have a problem getting a fifth key? We are using an air bed for our son and will refuse the rollaway.
Also, the Bay View room is just like a Graden (not a Deluxe) except it has a Bay view...correct?

I booked with the fan Club rate back in April. I told the reservationist that I needed to find my card now and she said not to worry that they do not even ask for it at check-in anymore. She double checked her screen and said there was no mention of needing proof at check in. When we booked with entertainment card and with AP the reservationist said "I see on here I am required to advise you that you will need your entertainment/annual pass at time of check-in." So, I would call them and tell them that you cannot find your card and see what they say. You still have time to change your rate without being charged. I think you have up until 5 days prior to your date. I just called last week and changed from Fan Club to AP rate. I do not see how they can require any proof of employment besides your fan club card if you still have it. My husband does not carry his business cards or check stubs with him on vacation.

OK thanks! I think I will try to book at the new rate now and then cancel the old reservation after the new one is confirmed. Remember...all this is being done by internet.
I have already booked the Royal and then cancelled it for Portofino. I have saved all correspondance. Funny thing is...we have not been charged anything on our credit card yet and it has been weeks since my first transaction.

Interesting observation (I am going to post this in a main thread also)...
First of all, I checked to see if the FAN rate for the Bay View - 2 queen beds - was still available. It was ...for a price of $254 (4 people).
Reservation - I filled out all information for date, guest, etc. and put in the "FAN" code like before. I saw a slot for the Loew's member number and thinking that I might get perks, I added that number also. Imagine my surprise when the room came up with a $344 rate! I thought I had lost the FAN rate, so I tried it again making sure I had the same dates. Still $344! I went back and took the Loew's member number off and clicked. $254 came back up. :D
Not that I care, but I found it very curious that the rate would change by putting in a member number that should be part of a reservation. Some people may not realize this when they are rate hunting. We don't care for getting Loew's points or our special check-in package (which by the way I have read where that is very spotty anyway).
