Reservation Question

We are buying resale and our UY will be September. We are planning a trip (plane tickets already bought) for 9/28-10-3. How possible is it that we will be able to book using our DVC points for the end of the month when the points will not be available until Sept 1st?
Also, we would need at least a 1bdrm but most likely a 2bdrm somewhere.

I'm not sure if you are saying that you are not closing until Sept 1st or just don't have the 2011 points until the start of your 2011 UY (Sept), but I'm fairly sure that once you close you can make a reservation with the 2011 points even though they won't literally be in your account. Somebody else might be able to clarify.
You will probably have an easier time finding a room the first 3 nights, as F&W starts 10/1 and that weekend will be very busy. However, if you are flexible you should be able to find something.

Yes, you don't "get" your points on September 1. Your 2011 points are already there in your account and they are valid for stays from September 1 2011 - August 31 2012. So provided your trip falls into those dates, you would use your September 2011 use year points.

Use year has nothing to do with when you can book, only when you can stay.

Once you close, your points will show up in the DVC system within 10-14 days. You can call DVC in that week or two after the close and they can check to see if the points are loaded into the system. Once they are available, you can make a reservation using your Sept 2011 UY points for the dates you put in the post.

That is the week that F&W starts at Epcot (9/30), so availability may be low. 2BR rooms tend to be more available than smaller rooms, so you may be in luck. Since you are already in the 7 month window, MS should be able to tell you what is available at the various resorts for the days you will be there. SSR, OKW and AKL are large and tend to have the greatest availability. BWV, BCV, and BLT may be tough to get into that week due to F&W.

Thanks! I would love SSR as we stayed there last year and had a great trip. Some of the points are banked from 2010 so I wasn't sure if I could make a reservation with them until Sept 2011. But I guess as long as I travel after Sept 1st then it's ok?

use year is about when you travel, not when you call to book. (it's also about when you can bank pts, which is why a stay in september when you have a sept use year is a good thing - if you had to cancel, you'd have extra time to figure out how to adjust your pts.)

so if you are staying on sept 28, 2011 with a sept UY, that means you are staying in your 2011 use year, which goes from sept 1, 2011 to aug 31, 2012. for trips in your 2011 use year, you can use banked 2010 pts, current 2011 pts (they are "current" because they are used for a stay between sept 1, 2011 and aug 31, 2012 - nothing to do with when you call to book) and/or borrowed 2012 pts.

but even if you are booking a sept 28, 2011 reservation using only borrowed 2012 pts that you would "get" on sept 1, 2012, you could still have called as early as oct 28, 2010 to book that stay at your home resort.

Once you get your points into the system, if you check online you will see September 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013. You don't have to wait until your use year starts to have access to points. Use is based on date of stay and the use year that date falls into.
