I am brand new and searched for this answer which I am sure is one here somewhere but didn't find it. If I book a reservation for next February but we csan't make it and decide to go in summer instead what happens? I am still not sure of vacationt time etc. but don't want to miss out on a reservation if we decide we want to go in February. I am already past the 11 month window so I am worried if I don't book I might not get what I want and I probably won't know for sure until late fall. Can anyone tell me how this process works?

As long as you cancel 31 days or more before the arrival date, your points will be returned to your account and you can make another reservation. Keep in mind that any banked or borrowed points in the reservation remain in that use year. It could get tricky if your summer dates are in a different use year. What is your use year?

I think we are fine as my use year is September I beleive. I am getting my 2009 points immediately and then in September I am getting my 2010 so I will bank my 2009 and then use both next year. As long as I use my 2009 by Sept. 2011 I should be fine I think so it shouldn't matter if I do Feb. or summer. So is going ahead and reserving for Feb. a good idea then? Thanks for your help.

Yes, I think it is a good idea to reserve for February now if you think you may want to travel at that time. It's an especially good idea if your travel is over President's Day.

Just remember that if your plans change, you need to cancel the February trip at least 31 days prior to your planned arrival. Then you will have no restrictions (other than availability) on rescheduling your trip to summer.

If you cancel 30 days or less prior to arrival, the points will still be returned to your account, but they will be in holding status. That means they cannot be banked, expire at the end of your use year and can only be used to book a trip that will begin 60 days or less from the time you call to make the reservation. Availability is often very limited once you get to the 60 day mark, so holding points can be difficult to use.

HTH.
