Reservation for 2 versus 1

Hi all,

I wanted an opinion on something... I was finding it difficult to get a reservation at Storybook Dining at Artist Point. As a result, I would frequently check for openings and one of the (many) times I was too lazy to change the default dining search of 2 people to 1 and I found an opening. Huzzah! Then I changed it to 1 person and the opening disappeared. Then back to 2 and it reappeared, so I took the reservation.

So what should I do? Will I get the stink eye for it when I show up by myself? Will Disney not bat an eye?? Should I look for a dining buddy??

Thanks!

Kristi

You can change it later with no issues.

Disney's revenue maximizing algorithms just want 2 people at the table to make more money. But they are willing to settle if you work around their software.

We have trouble finding tables for 3 as well and have much more luck finding 4. We just change it later or if we can’t let them know when you check in. It’s not a big deal as they don’t have different tables for 1 compared to a table for 2.

With very rare exceptions (Beaches and Cream with the counter being the one I can think of), a solo will be seated at a 2-top, so you are not taking a place away from anyone. They know that in some cases (‘Ohana never shows availability for one - and sometimes has issues with any odd-numbered party) their system is just wonky. As long as you show up, you are not charged a no-show fee.

You'll be fine, I just did this opening day. Made reservation for 2 because parties of 1 (or 3) weren't showing up. When I checked in I said it was just one and I was set.

I had this happen before. I just went to concierge a couple of days before my ADR and asked them to change my party to 1. It was easy, and I had a nice conversation about the restaurant (Boma for me) with the CM.

If all you have is a reservation (not a prepaid), then if your reservation is for many people and you just arrive with one person - no penalty.

In other words, if one person 'honors' a reservation, Disney does not charge a no-show fee.

More to your point - keep your reservation for 2-people, and as long as you show-up to honor the reservation, then you should be able to enjoy your meal alone.....without a penalty.

You'll be fine. Disney's dining reservation system has a quirk that makes it harder for any odd numbered party (1, 3, 5...) to find a reservation. The system wants to fill every seat at the table and since almost all tables have an even number of seats, if you input 1, 3, 5 the system cannot find a table. Add one person to make an even number and often availability shows. As a party of 3 we often have to book for 4.

Since 2 tops are the smallest table size at almost every restaurant, a party of one will be seated at the 2 top. You can call and modify the reservation down to one person if you want, but it really isn't necessary. As long as at least one person shows up for the reservation you will not be charged the no show fee. However, if you don't show up and don't cancel the reservation before the deadline and you have a reservation for two, you will be charged the no show fee for two.

I too found this when I went in Nov and they didn't mind if I changed it from 8 to 7 people.

Just book for 2. There is no such thing as a table for 1 as a 2-top is the smallest, so it is not like you are being shady and taking up a spot. :)
