Reservation cancel or rent?

I have an upcoming reservation at * and I don't think I will be able to take the trip. I can either try to rent the reservation (which I can't do until 30 days prior to arrival date) or I could cancel it now and try to rent the points. If I try to rent it and I am not able to do so I can cancel in the 30 day window and have the points put in holding for 60 days and try to rent the points. Any ideas or thoughts? Do you think someone would pick up this reservation in such a short time or I am taking a chance. I don't think I can transfer any points in holding but not sure. Thanks for any input!

Sorry Carol as you can see I am earning my ears and I didn't know. Please accept my apologies.

Actually, unless I already had a lot of points banked, or were beyond my banking window, I'd cancel and bank the points. It is always good to have a cushion for future travel or to be able to bring friends and family.

If the points in the reservation were absolutely not needed, my next choice would be to cancel and try to rent the points...it gives you more flexibility, but if the points didn't rent as I got close to my banking window, I'd bank them anyway.

If it is already too late for you to bank, then you have, at maximum, 4 months to try to rent and book...during a popular DVC travel period. In that case, I'd likely just hold onto the reservation and post the reservation for rental at the 30 day mark.

Keep in mind there is no DVC rule about renting a reservation more than 30 days out. This message board (Disboards) has a rule that you can't post such reservations here more than 30 days out - but there are several other places you could post it.

Good luck either way.

Thanks to you guys for all the information. I think I will hold onto it and try to rent in the 30 day window. I checked out the other sites but don't feel as good as I do about this one. This is a terrific site and monitored very well. But thanks for your guidance it has been very helpful.

You will find lots of info on the DVC Boards on renting, and check the stickies on the top of the Rent/Trade Board. Good luck to you on your renting venture!
