Reservation between UY's?

Can someone please confirm that what I am thinking is correct and any other advice would be appreciated. I have a December UY and looking to book a trip end of November and beginning of December next year. Will I have to make two separate reservations for the days before November 30th and then another reservation for the days after Dec 1st? Also if I plan on using some of my current December UY points after November 30th I will need to bank them before I make the reservation for the December 2019 days correct?

Yes. The November nights must be paid for with your 2018 use year points (or banked from 2017 or borrowed from 2019). To use 2018 use year points for a December 2019 stay, you would have to first bank the 2018 use year points.

Were I in this situation, I would make the November portion of the reservation online at 8 am Eastern. Then I'd call MS later that day (it doesn't have to be right at 9 am) to do the rest, December reservations can be tough to get and crossing use years can complicate things due to system limitations. I know I have to use the banked points before Nov 30 and that's what I was planning and the other 100 points after Nov 30th. The 2018 points have to be banked to 2019 BEFORE you make the December 2019 reservation if you want to use them for that stay. If you don't bank first, the system will use your 2019 points for the reservation.

The online booking allows you to bank at the time you are making the reservations. The function was added several weeks ago.

Some of the CMs don't know how to do it, either. My last trip crossed my use year, and I called to make the reservation rather then make it online specifically for that reason. It still wound up as two reservations...had to check in at the front desk for the 2nd part of the stay, though I was able to keep that same room. That is the first time I had that issue when crossing my use year, every time previously is was a single reservation number.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I booked the November part online and have been calling every morning to add a day for December. So far no issues. I do hope in the future they improve the online system to be smart enough to handle it.

Just wanted to add a reminder that stays at the end of your UY can be very risky. If you have to cancel a few months before your stay, the points used in November will probably go to waste. The points used for the December portion of the stay will have more options to be re-used before they expire.

Might be a good time to consider trip insurance...
