Reschedule question

My sister gave me DVC points for my 50th birthday trip which is schedule for September 1st-7th. I’m waiting to see what’s going on with park tickets before I make any decisions about rescheduling. If I need to reschedule the trip to February how far in advance of my September trip do I have to reschedule without losing any points? 30 days?

31 days. Put whether you can reschedule will depend on her use year and whether her points have been banked or borrowed. It would be best to contact your sister.

I think the answer is it depends.... It depends if those points expire before February. It depends if you can find availability in February (depending when you might change). But I believe if you cancel 30 days or less before your trip, those points will go into a holding account - and you can only use them less than 60 days before your rescheduled date. So if you cancel after August 1, you probably cannot make your Feb reservation until sometime in December.

Hello! Your answers will vary... First, we need to know the year of the points, if anything is even available come February and have you asked your Sister if it were even possible to reschedule the trip she booked for you. We need those before we can give you a definitive answer.

Ok! Yes she said I can reschedule as she has plenty of points (of course depending on availability). Her use year is February and these are 2020 points. She has all her 2021 points available.

Cancel 31 days before trip or they go into holding which will make it tougher to book the next trip because it can only be done 2 months out (low availability/choices). Her February 2020 points would need to be banked by end of September to be used in February 2021. February 2020 points will expire January 31st if not banked by end of September.

If you wait too long to decide, your choice of resort & villa size may not be available, especially if you are planning on a studio at one of the near-park resorts (BLT, POLY, VGF, BRV/CCV, BWV or BCV). Those can disappear very quickly once you get within 7 months of arrival. Due to the closures and the extended points, 2021 is expected to be more difficult to book at 7 months than usual.

Thanks for the heads up! Was thinking that was going to be the case with all the closures. We are currently booked at BWV for September. The points are at SSR so will wait and see at 7 months if We can switch, if not will just go in September and hope we can get park tickets!
