Can we reschedule an ADR the day of without being charged the $10 fee?

For example our dinner reservation at Cape May is at 5:55 pm, but at 1 pm we decide we want to stay at the park longer and change our reservation to 7 pm(as long as it's available of course), can we do that without being penalized?

We have free dining and the stress of having to know our dinner times so far in advance is driving me crazy... are they too early? Are they too late? What are we going to miss in the park if we have an early dinner? If we have an early dinner will we have enough time to head back to the park? And I don't want to eat dinner at 9 pm either... UGH!!

I have only booked one ADR for lunch and that is BOG, but besides that, we are winging breakfast and lunches.

As long as you modify the one you have instead of booking a new one and cancelling the old one you can reschedule the same day without penalty.

Yes, you can. You are free to reschedule it for another day if that works for you, as well. And if you reschedule it for more than a day ahead, you can then cancel it without penalty.

Usually they charge the penalty, as you inconvenience others for your own selfishness.
Rubbish.

1) OK.
2) But, if one sees as penalty charge on the room or credit card, one knows why.
3) THE POLICY says midnight to change an ADR, so the eatery manager has the final say.

NOTE-1:
Yes, I know people want to get around WDW policies for their own purposes, but it does not always work that way.
Before retiring, I was a concierge and had MANY people complain about a penalty charge.
I asked when they tried to cancel or alter the ADR.
If after midnight the previous day, I apologized and left the charge on the room bill.

NOTE-2:
We could not understand why people thought they had the right to go against policies.
Especially those so plainly detailed.

I would agree that it seems to be up to each restaurant and the staff that day as to whether they enforce it or not.
I have watched it go both ways while waiting for my ADR.

I've never had luck changing the reservation online day of, but I was able to call and move my reservation time. I wasn't feeling well and we had left Epcot to go back to the Contemporary to rest, but we had a reservation for dinner back at Epcot that night. By the time I was okay to leave there was no way we'd make it there on time. It was no problem moving the reservation time back an hour and we weren't charged anything. It would depend on the availability of the restaurant, but if there isn't anything available and you know you can't make it ask to move it out a few days and then you can cancel penalty free. Also check Opentable if they have the restaurant available, there are a few that are, and those don't have penalty charges for cancelling late.

I have modified on the day of. On MDE, phone app. It lets you up to a certain time before your ADR time...like 30 or 60 minutes before. Sometimes we are at restaurant early and I will look to see if they have opening. Sometimes I feel like we need to go later.
