We are looking to buying an add on resale of anywhere from 50 to 120 points. This is a hard to find thing I realize. Anyone have any suggestions of where to look? Also, does Disney sell add ons directly, I can't remember if they did and what the going rate was, but my assumption is that the re-sale would be a lot less money. HELP!

We have added on four times since our initial purchase. We did it all through Disney, the add-ons ranged from 50 to 200. There's a site that lists what resales are out there (timeshare store?). Someone here could help you out with it. We paid whatever Disney charged at the time, regardless of the amount of points we were buying . We have made offers with others who were reselling on their own, but then you get into closing costs, and negotiating for who pays this years dues etc... One time we agreed to an add-on, and the person was using us to drive up the cost to someone else interested. Others on this site, have had great success with resales that have gone without a hitch. Good Luck!

The problem with small resales is that you still have the same closing costs, so it makes a resale of a small (less than 100) point contract less attractive than an add-on from Disney. If you are looking for 150 or more points, a resale would be an option.

You can call either of the two resale brokers out there. A Timeshare Broker 888-345-2622 Jaki Apetz or A timeshare Store.
There are plenty of good resales out there right now.

Good luck

You could also call a Timeshare Store and have your name put on a list of 50-100 point resale. I understand resales that small may not be an advantage because of having to pay the closing costs etc., but if you want a resale at OKW/BWV then that is the only way to go..

Good luck

The Timeshare Store is the sponsor of this forum and has helped many of us on the board with resale purchases. Their brokers are all very knowledgeable (some have even been DVC sales guides) and creative in assisting buyers find the right contract for their needs.

They can place you on a list to be notified when something is listed- many don't even make the website.

Good Luck- the process can be fun and enlightening. Please feel free to ask questions here.

There are some awesome resales out there right now! I'm looking (and pending on) a 230 point one and it's at that ever popular low price of $58. I'm still not convinced that is the "bottom line" - but I guess I've done enough research to learn that it more than likely is and I don't want to let this get away if we are really wanting to do this (and we do).

The only thing that worries me is with all the troubles Disney is having (ie hotel closings, knocking back on busses at OKW), are we ** really ** making the right decision? I hate to rush into something, but we've watched DVC since 1991 and I can't believe 10 years have gone by (not that we've vacationed there this whole ten years, but have made several trips).

Decisions - Decisions (oh how we hope they are the right ones!

I think a bet in Disney is a safer bet than many companies at this point, so I'm not at all worried about Disney going under anytime soon.

Sure, things are kinda hurting in the travel industry right now because of the economy and 9/11, but things will recover.

I definately agree with you, Firefighter Mickey!

Thank you for all the responses. Does anyone know what the going rate is at Disney for add-ons? Also, what would the closing costs be on say 100 or less (someone said it's all the same, I can't remember, is it something like $400 flat, or does it go by the size of the points?)

I'm so confused, because as someone pointed out $58 isn't bad for points, and I could definitely find a way to use 150+ points :))) Just need a way to find the money to buy them ... hehehe!

BTW, Firefighter Mickey, hello from another fire person!

Does anyone know what the going rate is at Disney for add-ons?

DVC's price for any points (new contract or add-on) is $75 per point. With Magical Beginnings, you can get a reduction of $10-13 per point- depending on the resort you're buying. There are no closing costs when done thru Disney directly.

Gooc Luck!

Closing costs do vary by how many points you get. It goes in tiers. I don't remember the actual figures, but last year our 100 point add on (resale) was about $370 closing. I recall there was a minimum, and then trying to remember, I seem to recall the jumps from there wern't that much, maybe another $25 per each additional 100 points, or something like that.

So that would put a 200 point contract at about $400.

This is just from memory from a year ago. I'm sure any of the brokers can give you current, accurate numbers.

Add-ons purchased from DVC go for the same price/point as any other point - I've not been tracking the latest point prices, I thought they were $75/point (someone will correct me if I'm wrong). There are no closing costs if you purchase from DVC - they pay all closing.

Add-on resales might not be as cheap as $58; sellers knowing that these are hard to find may be asking more.

I fight fires because the voices in my head tell me to... :D

We just purchased 150 at Boardwalk with 150 banked points for $57 a point. If we just rented out the banked points this year we would basically cover the closing costs of $500 and the maintenance fees of $600. Not a bad deal. There are some that are listing even lower right now. :jester:
