Resale question

Looking into a resale at VWL...100 pts in reservation status....need to be used by 9/1/09. Looking to stay memorial day weekend -5/22-5/25. How can I find out whether it's available? Know that closing may be difficult, but thinking I'll make a Rm res -- and hope for the best.......
Any thoughts?

Here's a link that will give you an idea of availability. The DVC Resort Reservation Availability isn't perfect, but its as close as we have to a way to look at future availability. Here is what May 2009 looks like:

The availability thread won't help for the reservation points as they can't be used for DVC. It's unlikely you could get a sale completed and recognized in the system to use for that time even if there were availability at the hotels to use the reservation points. You might be able to work out a deal with the seller to uses the points prior to closure and take that off the sale price. If you do make sure closing is after that date else they'll cancel the reservation when they change over the registration.

I agree with Dean.

Points in reservation status come from a canceled reservation originally made for a non-DVC resort or a cruise. Reservation points cannot be used to pay for a stay at a DVC resort or for a trade via RCI. They can only be used for another non-DVC resort or a cruise. For example, they could be used to book nights at the Poly or the GF.

2. It is a long shot to make an offer get through ROFR and still have enough time to book something for May using those points. If you cannot see a way to use them prior to the expiration, then make your offer to the seller as if they did not exist. They are of no use to you and thus have no value.

Possibly, you could reserve something and then rent the reservation, but you would be competing with Disney (god discounts out now), the non-DVC resorts cost a lot of points and so you'd probably only get $3 -$4 per point if you went that way. May not be worth the hassle.

Good luck - if this resale doesn't work out, there will always be others coming along.

If they are already reservation points, could they be used to book during the last four months of the UY? Or would the Rule of 4 not allow that?

If already in reservation status there should be no problem with the last 4 months of the UY.
