Knowing as of March 21, 2011, newly purchased resale points do not have the same privileges as points purchased directly from Disney.
My question is... were those before this date "grandfathered" in and can Disney make it that a resale buyer can only book at the resort (home resort) they bought into in the future? I would hate to buy resale and in a few years they change more of the privileges for the resale buyer. Thanks in advance for your comments.

Yes, the resale buyers who purchased prior were grandfathered in. As far Disney making the change to only book your home resort, I'm pretty sure that's all any of us are guaranteed (resale or direct).

The "perks" that have been removed are offered by the disney corporation. The ability to book different resorts is a function of ownership in a cooperative corporation. There's no way for Disney to take away that privilege. At least not without some very creative and public maneuvering.

Disney can pretty much do what ever they want. Question is, what and when?

We bought resale after March 21, 2011 and have used our points with absolutely no issue at all. We bought them to use at WDW DVC resorts. Period. The restrictions they imposed have no effect on us and how we travel.

According to the POS, if Disney decides to remove any resort from the "club", the owners will only be eligible for booking at the home resort. So, in that way, yes, Disney can do that.

However, that move would be for all owners of that particular resort, not just resale buyers. And, I don't see them taking any of the WDW resorts out of the club as it would limit the flexibility. The fact that they just added more of the WDW hotels as options for trading points for direct buyers indicates to me that they are trying to enhance buying direct over resale.

Buy where you enjoy staying or at least don't mind and any changes down the road will have less of an impact. And, just because in the past they "grandfathered" resale points to restrictions, does not mean that is what they will do in the future.

As Bill said, DVD can make whatever decisions they want as long as it follows the guidelines of the POS.

I'm quite certain that DVC/DVD can't treat qualified and non qualified owners any differently within the club itself including limiting them to the home resort only or having a different time frame for non home resort reservations. Anything not governed by the POS directly is totally open season however. They could go back and remove privileges from grandfathered owners though it's not likely and they could add other restrictions to those who bought after the cutoff date.

i would hate to pay $150+ per pt direct and have them change privileges that crush the resale value of my contract if circumstances forced me to sell.

you'll be taking a risk no matter what you do. but if you buy where you are happy to stay and pay as little as possible to get in the door, your risks are lower.
