We have had dealings with all 4 of the main resale agencies - The Timeshare Store,
DVC by Resale, Fidelity and the other one that cannot be listed here on the DISboards (pm me if you want more on the last one). We tried several times to use TTS but by the time we called about a specific contract, it was already gone. They were always cooperative and I would not hesitate to use them.
We made an offer for a contract listed by DVC by Resale and was told we weren't serious about buying because of our price. We put in the same offer with the "company-that-can-not-be-named" and it was accepted. That was our first resale purchase. That resale company was very quick to respond and even called us on Saturday to tell us we passed ROFR.
Our second purchase was through Fidelity with Rachel as our agent. Our experience with Rachel was less than desirable with slow response time. By slow, I mean days to respond to our emails.
Our 3rd, 4th and 5th purchases were through Fidelity with Sharon as our agent. Sharon responded to our every email in a very timely fashion and stayed on top of her portion of the process. We would not hesitate to use Sharon @ Fidelity again.
This was our experience. Others will swear by DVC by Resale and Rachel at Fidelity. There are a lot of factors that can delay matters that are out of the resale agents control. Their main input is in the negotiating of the contract price between the buyer and seller. Once the accepted contract is submitted to Disney for ROFR, they have little input. After passing ROFR, the main contact is the Title Company. It is up to the Title Company to get the buyer and seller to complete the closing documents, collect the proceeds from the buyer, submit the info to Disney and record the title transfer. Most of the time, this is where any delay will occur. In our purchases, we have had the Title Company misspell our name, record an incorrect mailing address, mail us the closing docs instead of emailing them and charged the wrong closing costs. Those four instances were on three separate contracts and with two separate Title Companies. The resale agencies have their prefered Title Company but you can request a different one. The Title Companies we have had experience with are Timeshare Title & More and First American Title.
Your experience with these agencies and persons within the agency can be similar or much different. Every resale contract is different not only in points, price and terms but also with the resale agency, the title company and of course the buyer and seller. The DISboards were extremely helpful to us and you'll find you can get very good advice here. Good luck with your purchase.
