Resale Purchase

Hello. I am a DVC member with my home resort at Animal Kingdom. I bought direct a few years ago and we (my family and I) are considering adding on because we need more points. :) Is resale safe (meaning we wouldn't lose our money)? I understand that it takes longer and that Disney has ROFR. Does anyone have any recommendations of brokers? This resale stuff is totally new to me, so I'm looking at any advice. TIA! Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post publicly.

Besides a broker you will work with a title company and the money will be escrowed.

If you like to save money, I would strongly recommend resale. It takes more time-- and is more of a pain upfront, but you'll save money if you're buying a contract that's more than 50pts.

There are 6 or so Resale sites that specialize in dvc resales, timeshare store being one of them. These are legit brokers. I would still read the contract carefully to make sure the details are correct (I've caught mistakes) but you'll be an owner at the end of the day.

I almost backed out of my first resale purchase for fear I was getting scammed and would lose 5 figures. That was in 2011. Ive had 4 trips on my points instead and grateful I bought resale instead of direct ;). It took months of research and a few lost bids but in the end it was worth it.

As long as the resale company you are dealing with, and the escrow agent (aka title company) that actually holds your money, are registered in Florida you can feel safe that you will either get your money back or a DVC contract. A bad reseller might just be more likely to take longer to get things done or be selling contracts that are underwater already on dues resulting in a sale falling apart from lack of funds. Things like that.

You probably want to make sure that whatever contract you buy is the same UY as your current one. If that is the case, and it is titled in the same way as your existing one, the new one goes into the same account.

Otherwise, you will get a new account, and might have to transfer points from one to the other, and inconvenient things like that
