If you are buying a resale contract (and you are not borrowing money to pay for it):

From the day you are notified that you have passed ROFR, how long does it usually take before you receive the paperwork you need to sign and instructions on how to send in the money?

My experience is 3 weeks or so.

Here’s a thread full of timelines where people report their contract movements. Start at the end of the thread and work backwards.

For example, here’s my last contract:

International seller (England)

Home: AKV
Offer Made: 10/19
Offer Accepted: 10/19
Off to ROFR: 10/20
Passed ROFR: 11/1
Docs Received: 11/21
Docs Returned: 11/22
Seller Returned Docs: 12/4
Closing: 12/11
Recorded Deed: 12/12
Points in Account: 12/15

I got the docs emailed over and printed and signed the day after I found out I passed ROFR. Scanned and emailed to closing company that day to make sure they were correct. Fedex’d back. Didn’t wire my remaining funds until the sellers’ sent their docs back in.....took them about 3 weeks. Needless to say I went crazy over that three weeks.

I have been waiting for 2 weeks. It seems it takes around 3 weeks according to some posts I read.

That's crazy fast!

In our experience it took 2-3 weeks from ROFR to receiving closing documents. Then we had to wait for the sellers to return their docs - some were fast and returned theirs right away, another took a month to return theirs. Sometimes it's not the title company or Disney but rather the sellers that are holding things up!

From passing ROFR to closing documents? Approx a week or so has been my experience and that was recently. Years ago it used to happen within a day or two.

I was expecting a few weeks based on that other thread, but we got ours in two days!

As with so many things in life, you never really know.
