DH and I have finally made the decision to buy DVC resale. We are leaning toward AKV, but on our next trip we want to tour BLT as well, SSR (toured before) is not out of the question. We want to try and buy a smaller contract 100-200 points at one resort to try it out and would like to save up some money over the next few months to avoid financing or using our savings. Here is my question...We already have fall break booked for 13 nights with FD so we are not in a hurry for points this year. We are looking more toward 2015 to begin using our points if we buy. What do you think the Polynesian coming available will do for the resale market? We are okay with waiting if the deals will be more substantial. Thank you in advance for your wisdom.

Disney raised the per point price significantly when VGF came on line. That seems to have caused resale to trend up. With the economy improving, and a popular resort, I'd be surprised if thy didn't raise prices again when Poly is ready. If they do, resale is likely to trend up also.

I agree with the previous response. All the resorts but vgf are sold out and they are 47% sold already, there is no question in my mind that both direct and resale prices will go up. I just sold 190 points at SSR at $76 and they were listed for only 3 days. I would grab points now, you can always bank the points or rent them... But get them before prices jump

The trend I've seen with the resale market is up up up, and the Poly makes DVC more attractive because people who have 'held out' as poly traditionalists can join the fold (and I know A LOT of people who simply 'must stay' at the Poly and go every year--prime DVC candidates, deluxe visitors who vacation there yearly). Tragically, we don't want to 'flip' our points or I'd totally take advantage of that market to sell. Honestly, I can't think of another property that they could create that hasn't been built already that would be more popular than the Poly.

Prices are already going up in June, likely to make room for the Poly at a lower point cost.

Got an email today from our rep saying that in June the price per point is going up to 160 per point.

Personally I think we're at an artificial high right now due to the hype of GF but I don't think you'll see enough downward movement to justify waiting just for additional savings. What you can do is look for a better contract and be more selective. SSR will be your cheapest option of those mentioned both short and long term It's likely worth going more in the 150-200 range if you're pretty sure DVC will be a good choice for you, if not, rent and try it without buying now. Also consider that you could get by with a smaller contract by buying now and banking points.

Thank You all for your help! You had some great points that I had not considered. A lot of the contracts I am finding are stripped, but want the buyer to pay maintenance for 2014. Since we are booked on a BB for fall we can be selective and we don't have to have a loaded contract, but I don't want points coming in 2016 but not 2015. We will keep browsing then pounce when we see a good fit!
