Resale Contract- Can Now Borrow Online?

I have four resale contracts. My first contract, closed in late 2020, cannot borrow online. I have to call member services to do so.

However, I recently closed on three more resale contracts in the last few months and have been able to successfully borrow online (without the dreaded 7 dwarves, yay!). Anyone else notice this change? Hoping it's not a fluke and that Disney actually changed their ways for us peasant resale buyers.

It has always been contract and account specific. I have never had an issue borrowing with resale points.. I think the good news is that your account had issues and the new contracts do not, so maybe it has indeed been FINALLY fixed for all members!!!!

I have been trying to send Disney IT info on the issues I've seen in borrowing points on resale contracts, which seem to be:

(1) Borrowing a second time after borrowing once, even if that second time is still under the 50%
(2) The resale contract I'm borrowing from does not match the resort I'm trying to make the booking on (ie, using SSR points to book CCV)
(3) Borrowing in the 8-11 month window

I have not, admittedly, borrowed recently, but that has been my experience when I was borrowing some points and trying to figure out why I was having issues when I had been able to borrow from some, or had been able to borrow once but not a second time.

Very interesting! I haven’t borrowed in the 8-11 month window, and have not tried to borrow twice from the same contact but I was able to borrow from one contract/home resort to book a different resort.

I have never had issues borrowing online from any of my resale contracts.
So strange how it appears to be a random problem. I wonder what is the differentiating factor with the contracts that can and those that can’t.

I had trouble with a newly purchased resale VGC contract when I was borrowing points in October and had to call it in. I also have a direct contract in the same UY but at BLT. The CM spoke about how it was a known issue.

I was told on 12/11 on the phone by a member services CM that resale contracts "cannot borrow online" and must call...
I own 2 resale contracts as of 2021 and I cannot borrow on either one online.

What they told you is not completely true. I have two resale contracts and have borrowed online from both of them with no issues. A lot of people can do it without a problem. It is a glitch affecting people seemingly at random.

But it is not all resale contracts. It is mostly them but some had trouble with direct as well.

It does seem to be account dependent. The only logical tech reason my nephew who is a programmer said would make sense for it not to be fixed is it would need disabling and creating new accounts for those owners. That would wipe out any trips.

However, they have never explained it so that leads you to believe that they don’t want to fix It. Which also makes no sense because it has increased wait times.

Either fix or explain why..or adjust the rules temporarily to allow a situation that allows a pre borrow without a reservation

Of course they could also disable borrowing altogether from everyone which would make wait times even worse.

Correct me if I'm wrong on the history of this issue, didn't this problem start to occur after the 50% borrowing restriction went into place?

I have 2 resale contracts, and I've never had a problem borrowing online, before or after the 50% restrictions. My resale contracts were purchased in 2018 and 2021.

Yes. It worked fine before then so it makes no logical sense unless there is something coded wrong that errors when

It’s more than just contract/account dependent. I had no issue borrowing earlier this year. I did not borrow up to my full 50% but now error all the time when I try to borrow *again.*

My best guess is there is an issue in the logic that determines if you can borrow and then processes that transaction, and it’s probably buried in some complex coding logic that is difficult for their team to either reproduce, untangle, and/or fix, and that improving the customer experience for owners experiencing this issue is not a priority.

if folks haven’t sent emails in to report this issue, they may not be aware of how many people are affected. As I’m in tech myself, I can tell you that product teams prioritize based on customer impact as one determining factor — and if it’s true that Disney IT can’t themselves reproduce the issue in their environments, they may very well wait to allocate resources to fix it until customer complaints dictate they should address it. Especially as “you can just call in to do it.”

I personally am very frustrated at this bug, because I don’t want to sit on hold forever to borrow points, and this has been going on long enough that I want them to prioritize figuring out the issue and fixing it.

I have sent emails a few times even though I have not had any issues with it all so I did make sure they got feedback from an owner who isn’t even impacted.

Just adding that I just borrowed from a more recent resale contract and had no issues. I don't believe I'll be borrowing again to test out if I'd have an issue borrowing a second time from the contract.

So is the borrowing glitch gone now that the 50% restriction is gone. I only had this issue with my resale contracts that I have with my membership that has multiple contracts both direct and resale. My VGC contract that has a separate membership and UY never had any issues with borrowing. Strange.

There is at least one report from someone who had issues and no longer does. I am going to assume it is fixed since it only showed up after the 50% rule went into play.
