Reruns already??

I was all settled in to watch "90210" and "Privileged" tonight, but they are already showing reruns .

I can think of a few reasons that might be . . . first, they're both new and typically only a few episodes of new series are filmed initially. Then the network orders more (or not) but the newer episodes might not be ready yet. Also, the baseball playoffs are going on and lots of networks don't want to try to compete with those. And then next month is a sweeps month, so they could be saving some episodes for sweeps. Better to show reruns now than during sweeps!

I guess those are all valid reasons. Maybe one of those is why. Of course it's minor in the grand scheme of things, but still disappointing since DH is out of town and I was looking forward all afternoon to those shows (which he doesn't watch). I guess I should see what other shows I normally watch are reruns this week.

Both shows were broadcast for weeks prior to the start of the regular season, as part of CW's attempt to get viewers to watch their shows instead of shows from the Big Four networks. Consequently, if they run episodes straight through, they will run out of episodes before the end of the season, thereby showing far worse ratings during May sweeps, when ad rates are set for next year.

In addition, many series are showing reruns this week and next to avoid trying to compete against the baseball playoffs and World Series. Among the shows I watch: Bones is running two weeks of reruns; Criminal Minds, one; Fringe, one; House, one (earlier); How I Met Your Mother, one; NCIS, one; Terminator, one. In addition, other series have been or will be preempted over the next three weeks due to baseball, the debates, or the election: Bones, Simpsons, My Own Worst Enemy, Fringe, Eli Stone, House, NCIS, Pushing Daisies.
