I have read a few posts that mention putting bags on lockers before riding? Is this required? All bags? Fanny packs? Small over body type bags??

Only fanny packs and lanyards are allowed. Everything else must be stored. This is for Forbidden Journey, Dragon Challenge, The Hulk, RIp Ride ROckit, The Mummy and Men in Black.

Just the attractions Damo mentioned require you to store bags. Any other attraction is fine to carry on.

Is this free? Are the keys? Before you get in line? This seems irritating and a hassle.
For the attractions listed, the lockers are free during the time you're riding but not all day. They use a fingerprint scan to lock and open. You would need to stow your stuff in the lockers before you get in line. It may sound irritating and a hassle but it's for everyone's safety. The types of rides that don't allow bags are rides that have lots of motion and there's always a possibility of something flying off and hitting another rider.

or flying off and getting stuck in the ride mechanism making it shut down.

Hmm...this still seems very inconvenient. We often have a bottle of water and on hot days standing in line you can't have anything. I also typically check email etc. on my iPhone while waiting in lines. I am also not comfortable leaving my ID cash credit cards in some locker. I only carry a very small crossover body type small purse wallet type. I have not had issues at Disney even on Rock n roller coaster. Fanny packs are just not my style what does everybody do?

they use the free lockers or use a fanny bag.

i only wear a lanyard that has a pouch besides a pocket.
all that i need is in that lanyard.
i can stuff it in my pockets or in my tee shirt for the rides.

::yes::I wear a fanny pack. It is easier. I can put my room car, cc, cash, camera, and even my cell phone and advil in it.

I guess I can tighten my small bag (smaller and flatter than a fanny pack) to fit around my waist instead of over my body. Not sure why this is better but I won't be in Disney anymore so I will adapt.

You can wear cargo pants and put stuff in your pockets.

We do wear lanyards, where we keep APs and my ID and a CC and a bit of cash, but other than that I have NO fear of leaving all the rest of our stuff in a locker.

You use your finger-scan, and it's not like someone else could do that. If the locker doesn't work when you go to retrieve your stuff (we needed two lockers and my son wanted to do it...worked fine when we put things in, but didn't read his finger when we went to get stuff out), you find the locker attendant, and they will help. You will NOT be leaving the area without proving that that locker is yours. We showed the attendant pictures on my camera that showed my son from that day; she wanted an ID but I was carrying that in the lanyard, so it proved nothing. I'm sure that if I'd balked at showing them osmething, if I couldn't have described the items in the bag, if I'd tried to run, I would have met some security people in a moment or two.

It adds a little time to the day, but I like the idea. I know that in Forbidden Journey's line there are some drinking fountains, and I've heard that when it gets really hot they sell refreshments inside the line (in the greenhouse I guess). MIB's line is mainly inside. Didn't notice any fountains in the RRR line, but I wasn't looking for them.

I am so not a fanny pack type person, but for Universal I adapted or I simply USED the lockers. It is not that big of a deal and it is for the safety of everyone. Not to mention it can't be fun losing an object.I saw someone lose both an Iphone and eyeglasses on Mummy because they were in a pocket..

when i couldn't get my locker open, the TM opened it for me.

of course i had no id with me as it was in the locker.

the TM asked me what was in the locker and i told her the descriptions.
easy as that and when she opened it and saw what i told her was in there, got my stuff out.

they won't deny you your belongings once they open the locker if you can tell them at least one thing that is in it.

i had just purchased some sweets and no way was i going to put that in my pockets so i used the locker.

They can also open your locker for you to get your ID.

Can you take your sunglasses with you on those rides? I have a croakie type strap, but my kids don't.

You can take anything that can fit in your pockets with you.. so you're fine to keep your cell phone, IDs, credit cards, sunglasses etc. (although on a roller coaster I wouldn't want to leave anything in my pockets) Also, you can take drinks if they can be thrown out.

Croakies on glasses work great, but I wouldn't take sunglasses without them. Unless they are prescription, they would be too loose I'd think. There seemed to be trash cans and drinking fountains scattered through a lot of the lines, so taking a snack or a drink with you in a longer line works just fine.

My teenage daughter was horrified that we would even consider NOT using the lockers for the phones. husband thinks I am way over thinking this. I don't want to spend time figuring out how everyone is carrying things only to have one of us want a souvenir cup or something and then we would have to use the lockers anyway. Oh well. Just hoping the lockers are not too much of a headache!
