Please send some positive thoughts and prayers for my wonderful sister-in-law. She is starting treatments today to try and stop the spread of thyroid cancer. The treatments involve ingesting a radioactive pill. She needs to stay in isolation for 3 day and can become really sick during the treatments. The doctors suspect the cancer has spread but they wont know for a few days.
My sister-in-law is not new to cancer and illness. She was first diagnosed with Hodgkins when she was 23 and pregnant. My nephew is now 27 and quite healthy. She underwent multiple surgeries and treatments for the Hodgkins including large doses of radiation and chemo. Since then she has been treated for Lupus, breast cancer and stenosis of the spine and a host of other lesser ailments. All, including the thyroid cancer likely resulted from the radiation she received back in 1983. Her body has had the maximum radiation dosage anyone should have but the current treatment is the only course of action so the risks outway the potential benefits.
My sister-in-law is one of the most amazing people I know. Through everything shes endured her primary focus has always been on being the best mother, wife and grandmother that she can be. She never complains and is always smiling. Whenever you are around her she always shows a genuine interest in each individual even though I know she is often in a lot of pain. To look at her you would never suspect she is ill because of the positive energy she gives. She doesnt feel sorry for herself and continues to look to the future. She rarely talks about her illnesses but at my brother and her 25th anniversary party a few years ago she said a few words. She thanked everyone for their support through all of her illnesses and she said if she had the choice to change anything shed say no because with all of the hardships came love she never thought possible. She lives the words of the Serently Prayer - God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference
She would appreciate any positive thoughts and prayers you can send her way today.
Thanks.
