Requesting Rooms at Aulani

DVC newbie here, and headed to our first trip to Aulani. Reading the threads like crazy but am confused about room requesting. We booked for NYE back in February so pretty much had to take what we could get. We have one std room and one 2BR villa. I'm assuming they can't be close to each other, which okay. But I am wondering about requesting buildings/floors. We never thought to do that....should we? Or can we even at this point if we want to? Is that something you do in advance or when you check in?? How do I know if there's a side of a building I want to be on....or how high up we want to be? Is higher always better so you can see out? Seems like lower might be better without a view if we're toting around 4 littles?

Are both the studio and 2 bedroom standard view, or did you book another category?
Standard view will be on the lower floors, and you can request your rooms be close and on the same floor.
