requesting menus without prices

I am treating my husband of 40 years to an 8 day WDW trip at the end of Jan. We have DxDP the 1st 4 days and platinum plan the next 4. I called the dining number to request menus without prices for him. They said forget it, no way. Is there any way to contact the restaurants directly or a manager? Seems pretty easy - copy menu, white out prices, copy and give to husband. Not necessary for wine list, of course. I don't want him to order less expensive items just so I can tip less. The restaurants where I would like this are CA grill, Artist Point, Flying Fish, Citricos. Most high end restaurants have menus without prices for people entertaining clients. I am sure V&A will comply and the other ones don't matter (CRT, Brown Derby, Sanaa). Fulton's menu is too long. Plan B is for me to read him the menu - kind of weird.

Any suggestions appreciated.

All of the places you mentioned will let you take a copy of the menu home if you ask. So, you could take a black pen or white out, ask for a copy of the menu before you're seated, and then black/blank out the prices yourself. It would be one way of preventing your husband from seeing the prices without making extra work for the restaurant staff.

I don't know if it is really that easy. None of the menus were on standard sized paper. Most were two-sided and on specialty paper.

Once you're at DW you might be able to ask the concierge or stop by the restaurants and ask if they have menus without prices.

Otherwise, you could look at the menus on the Disney dining reservation page and make a guess at what your husband would order (if he didn't have to worry about prices) and tell him you already have a certain amount set aside for the tip and that you will leave that amount even if he orders the least expensive items.

So if you tell him that you've "got it covered and order whatever you like" that won't be sufficient?

1) Seems like a lot of work.
2) I think saying you will cover it would be enough.
3) There ARE ways to get menus without prices.
4) ANY sit-down eatery can print menus without prices.
5) But, you need an accommodating CM.
6) Take the easy way out.

NOTE: As many fine dining houses, especially country clubs and
private clubs, you can get a menu without prices. These are
typically used for business meals where you do not want the
client to see the prices. However, it is not customary at WDW.

As the menus at V&A are personalized for each diner, to the extent that foods a person is unable to eat due to allergy or presence is not even on the menu, they would easily be able to have his menu with no pricing on it at all. When they call to confirm the reservation let them know at that time.

I appreciate all the suggestions. I may make some effort when I am there, but it's not a big deal. It will work out fine. Thanks for your help.

find the menus on the disboards, print them out then black out the prices and take them with you?

Just a suggestion...

I don't think you can expect the restaurants at WDW to delete the menu prices for you. You will likely have to do that yourself. I don't even know if they would be willing to provide you with photocopies, but it can't hurt to ask.

I think all of the places on the list that this would be needed for (CA grill, Artist Point, Flying Fish, Citricos) have menus that are similar to the ones on All Ears, but change often, sometimes literally day to day. We went to Flying Fish twice in the same week, and there were a few different items on the menu between the two visits.

Getting the menus from the host/hostess when you check in and blanking out the prices before you sit is probably the best option.

Also -- If you make the ADRs online, they often have a comment section for special occasions, etc. We had confetti on the table and special menus printed with our names at Cali Grill for our anniversary. It couldn't hurt to try making the request in that space as well.

I will probably read him 2 or 3 choices and let him decide. After 40 yrs, I have a pretty good idea of the things he would like to eat. We discussed this last night and he is fine with that. He would prefer not to know the prices.

I have been studying the menus on this site to get a good idea of what is offered and checking on yelp for popular choices. It is so fun to plan!

I appreciate all the responses. When I get there, I will see what I feel comfortable doing.

I agree-they change daily at the Fine Dining places

MY DH wont eat at any of the higher price ones anymore-he's been disappointed too often and the prices at WDW are beyond absurd:sad2:

Signatures for the most part just means higher prices. We eat at them but for lunch. You get basically the same food for a lot less. We eat our biggest meal during the day now instead of late at night so we aren't stuffed at bedtime.

There are also some great places at the Swan or Dolphin to eat but they are all pricy.

Our policy is eat where they have what you want!

For a good lunch try Earl of Sandwich.

50's Prime Time is great of you like interacting with your server and although the food at sci-fi is average the atmosphere is wonderful :)

Which signatures are open for lunch? Now that it's added, I know Fulton's, but I thought Cali Grill, Flying Fish, Artist Point, etc were all only open for dinner. :confused3

Okay, so I'm confused. If you have the DDP then menu prices shouldn't matter as with the DxDDp you get the appetizer, entree and dessert. Maybe I'm missing something though.

Hollywood Brown Derby in DHS is open for lunch, and CRT, if you count that.

The OP is going to tip on the actual price of the meal, and thinks her DH will choose the lower-priced items on the menu in order to minimize the amount of tip they would need to leave, I believe.

this is funny! My DH always OVER tips...he has NEVER been in the service industry but I HAVE...LOL he tips 25-35 % and it drives me nuts! it is like paying for an extra meal and 1/2 - but with the reg old dinning plan we buy the most expensive thing on the menu assuming we are going to tip 20-25 bucks each time....so yes have a set aside amount of all the tips give - make it a bit higher just in case...but it is easy to calculate if you look at the menus - of course you prob would already know what you would order :D

Have fun!!!!! it sounds awesome! and i have to give you such a big cyber (((HUG)))) 40 years!!!! What a great example to many! :D Good for you guys!!!!:goodvibes:cool1::thumbsup2:banana::woohoo::yay:

I hope he doesn't find out how much the deluxe and platinum plans are, then! :lmao:

The man is an adult, let him order whatever he wants, not what you think he may want.
