Requesting Elevator or first floor at OKW?

We will be booking a 2-bedroom at OKW and due to two strollers and my mom not doing well on stairs, I need to request either a building with an elevator or a ground floor suite.

Is this going to be next to impossible? I don't need a HA room, just REALLY trying to avoid stairs. I will also be requesting non-smoking.

We will be booking this through Disney. How should I handle this? I've never reserved accomondations at Disney before, so I'm a little nervous about this.

If stairs are going to be a real issue, especially for your mom, you shouldn't just make ground floor/elevator a request, but make it a request for medical reasons.

If your mom can really do stairs OK and you can work with the strollers, then just make it a simple request. Since most people request upper floors (due to less noise), ground floor is quite often available. But not guaranteed.

Note: If you do request for medical reasons, the chances might be slightly higher that you'll get a HA room as they may block it out for you.

You'll have to decide if it only needs to be a regular request, or if you really really really need it and need it guaranteed for medical reasons.

I agree with Caskbill that you should request first floor or elevator for medical reasons. If you do so and that (or non smoking) are your only requests, you will almost certainly be successful. If you clutter the requests with other items such as specific buildings or even first floor but NOT HA you still may be successful but there is a higher risk that you will not be. I would hope that someone who has these needs would be willing to accept a HA as there are more of them than truly is needed at this time so it would not be taking one away from someone who needed it.

I have requested either a building with an elevator or first floor twice for my friends MIL. No problem. We have always gotten a first floor room.

That and non smoking are all I requested.

(All I request on my personal stays it Non smoking. I have surveyed... All the rooms are at Disney LOL!)

2 OKW stays, and I've always requested first floor or elevator building, non-smoking and have always gotten just that. Fine villas, wonderful stays!

Our visit to OKW is booked for 9/30-10/5. I requested first floor or near elevator for medical reasons, since my mom said she could get a medical note from her Dr. if needed (she has arthritis in her knees.)

My DH and I only live 2 hours away from Orlando (versus the rest of our group coming from TN). So I plan to arrive early on the 9/30, to make sure the request is good to go.

I read many people call 5 days before to secure request, should I do fine with our early morning arrival?

I'm just excited that our trip is offical now! Woo hoo!

DVC admonishes us to NOT call with requests to the resort a few days before. You will be fine if you get there before noon.

Duly noted: I'm not familar with DVC, I booked OKW through Disney reservations as I would any of the regular resorts.
