Hi all,
My son has Autism and learning disabilities, and doesn't really have much communication. We use a system called PECS (http://www.pecs.org.uk/) with him, which gives him a folder full of symbols and photos that he can choose from, and put his chosen symbol on a sentence strip with "I want" and "please" or "I don't like <symbol" etc. It is absolutely amazing, and he does vocalise now he's using PECS, because he says the items as he gives you the sentence strip. The idea being that you then (where possible) exchange it for the item he wants.
Before we started using PECS, he wouldn't speak at all and would go hours without a drink or food because he couldn't ask for one (even using pointing or grunting). Now, he'll come up to me with a sentence strip that has "I want... drink... please" and he'll say it as he does it. Its awesome to watch, and has given him a new lease of life.
Anyway, the reason for my post is that we are off to DLP again next month (we went last year for the first time and he loved it). I'm hoping to make a folder of DLP pecs for him, so he can ask if he wants to go on a particular ride, in a particular shop, back to the hotel, on a bus or whatever. The downside, I have very few photos that are clear enough to use. The PECS are printed at just 1.5" square, so the image has to be clear and uncluttered or he won't be able to tell what it is.
If anyone has any photos that are just of either the ride entrance or the ride sign, a part of the ride that makes it obvious which ride it is etc... and the same with any shops - I would be really really grateful if I could steal a copy just for this purpose.
