Curious if anybody has ever stayed at Disney World hotel and then mid stay decide to change to another Disney hotel. Can it be done? I booked aoa suite for a week but half the party is leaving early and it will be just two people left for 3 more nights. Can I ask if they can move us on check in to say a deluxe hotel room or moderate so we can finish out the three nights as we will be kid free and want to enjoy hanging around resort and relax. We will not need such a large room.

We have done it twice. Well, requested twice. Accommodated first time (Pop to CSR), second time, there was no room (trying to go CSR to Pop), so they put us up in a suite at CSR because of our issues.

So, you can ask...you will have to, more than likely, pay any difference, but it can be done if there is room..

I did once and it was not an issue. In April 2011, I booked a last minute trip and since I was only traveling with my daughter (2 at the time) I booked a room at ASMu. I had never stayed at a value and had no idea how tiny those rooms were. Between suitcases, the stroller and car seat, a case of diapers, etc. it felt very cramped. I went to the desk the next morning to ask about switching resorts and we were in our room at CSR within 3 hours of that.

Since you know they are leaving and which day ......... why don't you just go ahead and book it the way you want? that way you'll be sure and get what you want. Depending on when you are going, given that folks have been complaining about not being able to book, you might be stuck there by waiting until you get there.

If you're sure that you want to do this, there's no reason to wait. Change your reservation now. If you wait till the day you want to make the switch, you'll have a much more limited choice of resorts and rooms, and you'll likely pay the highest possible rate (rack rate) for the room you switch to. If you do it now, you can at least take advantage of any discounts that might be offered.

I agree with the others. Book a split stay now. We'e booked split stays many trips.

Right. There is no advantage to waiting until you arrive to ask about this.

Remember, while we all think of Disney World as one big happy place, it is really a composite of many profit centers. You asking to do this, just because, means AoA loses the income on a suite that will be difficult to rent last minute while you take your money to another resort. There may be less incentive to help you out since they will take the loss.

You can ask, they may or may not be able to accommodate your request. And just expect to pay if the place you move costs more. If you already know you want to do this, I'd suggest changing your reservation now so that you will be sure about it.

I've done this a couple of times when the last night or two I decided to splurge and move us over to a deluxe. One time we were pixie dusted and not charged the difference (this was a few years ago and totally not expected but certainly much appreciated) and the other time we paid rack rate (as I expected). It really depends on availability and as others have indicated, if you know in advance that you would like to switch it is really simple (and usually more cost effective) to book a split stay in advance.
