Just returned this morning from the 7-night Western cruise. The trip was fantastic and the weather just right.

Let me say, first of all, Castaway Cay is still the wonderful Castaway Cay it always was so you folks heading that way will not be disappointed.

Having been there before (the last time was in April) we did notice quite a difference in the landscape this time due to the hurricanes. Very noticable was the missing greenery behind you when you had your picture taken with the ship in the background. Just sand there now. Perhaps they will realize this and at least put some pots in that area. They were also doing work in the ground in that area (big crane to the side) along with some dredging near the dock.

Many of the shrubs had been stripped of their leaves and new growth was emerging among the brown areas but will take a while to reach the height they once were. New flowers have been planted along the walkway. I think they lost some palms along the beach area but plenty are still there - just not as much shade from them as before until new growth.

In spite of what the island went through, Castaway Cay still looks great with plenty of green and getting greener every day. The food was delicious, as always, and you can all look forward to a wonderful day there :cloud9:  ::yes::

Thanks for the update. We are headed there in a little over two months. It sounds like our beloved CC is looking great despite the beating it took.

Sometimes hurricanes can really stir up the water -- is it clear enough to really enjoy snorkling???

Thanks!

the place where you snorkel at the family beach is never good in terms of what you can see....there's really nothing to see (except for what disney has put way out in the water there)...
but on the way out there's absolutely nothing to see...and if there are many people in the water, the water becomes totally murky...

bottom line, we didn't even bother with the snorkeling on our second cruise....waste of time for us (we live near a coral reef where there's really brilliant snorkeling and scuba diving)....

We just got back and the snorkeling was good-considering this was my first time. It is quite a ways out there but they sunk a sub and urns where the fish live. Personally, it was great for me. There was this one school of fish that must have had over 200 fish there. We saw some anenomes and yellow tangs, yellow tail snapper. There were this beautiful blue fish as well. The Mickey statue that they feature was gone-the lifeguard said it was damaged by the hurricanes and it's in the midst of being repaired. For a first timer, it's nice because it's not intimidating but I know there is so much more out there like disneyholic family said. I wasn't disappointed but maybe because it's my first time !
