Replacing an awning

I know at least one of you guys on here has probably done this......we need to replace our awning, but not the frame work. It will save us about $900 if we just do the canvas. How hard is it to do this and is it worth the install fee to have a dealer do it? Thanks for all your advice.......

you can do it yourself, but unless you are handy then it is better to pay the dealer to do it. To do it you will have to remove one of the end caps on the roller tube. Be careful as the springs are tight and can hurt you if they suddenly unwind. Do a search on google for exact instructions for your brand of awning. When i had to change mine, i had to change the roller and fabric. I have 16' awning and the new fabric and roller tube was only 340.00 dollars. It is easy to install. Just insert it in the trac on the camper and then put the end caps on the arms. You are then ready to go just cut the plastic tie on the end and it is ready to go.

My hubby likes to stuff like that, but we didnt know that you could get the tube as well. That sounds like it might be easier than just replacing the fabric. Thanks for the info, I knew someone here would have already tackled this.

On the topic of awnings..anyone have to replace the spring..? Ours isn't rolling up. Had to handroll it when we closed up in the fall. How difficult is this..or are we better off having the dealer do this?

Replacing the spring isn't bad but you should replace them in pairs if possible.
