Replacing a remote control for in car dvd player

We bought our headrest monitor DVD system when we got our car (but aftermarket). The system still works great (2004) but our remote got corroded somehow and it needs replacing.

Can I just buy any universal remote and use it or do I need a specific kind?

The unit was a Visualogic system and I don't remember where we got it from (online).
