Replace older rides?

I'm surprised there aren't DIS members outside of "Stitch's Great Escape" picketing.

:rotfl: Agreed! They need to come up with something entirely new. No more adaptations of the round theatre with the transport thingie in the middle (sorry, I don't know what it's called so I opted to go with 'transport thingie'.)

And I agree with the poster who said Ellen's Energy Adventure. You can tell that it's really, really old (especially since Ellen looks nothing like that anymore, though I don't expect them to keep up with her appearance every time she changes it either.) And while the plot is nice enough (I guess) the ride is ridiculously slow-paced and I genuinely was bored and falling asleep even with how loud it was.

Muppets 3D is a cute movie, but it is sooooo outdated. The premise of the movie is look at all the cool things we are doing is in 3D. This can now be seen at any local movie theater.

In homes even... I do still like it though. But I'm easily amused :rotfl2:

Now Drew Carey, that is where I draw the line. That attraction needs to be laid to rest IMO. It's beyond help.

Call me sentimental, but I don't think the classics should be scrapped. Updated, maybe. But scrapped, no. Jungle Cruise, Country Bears, Peter Pan are all classics and should never be completely scrapped. Ever.

What rides do you think need to be updated or replaced?

I belive that they are currently upgrading Star tours, i can't wait to try the new one.
I do think that Jungle Cruise at MK should be replaced as it has been superceedd by the wonderful Killamanjaro Safari at AK.

Any thoughts??

You... think... JUNGLE CRUISE should be replaced!?

The mind reels.

I disagree about the Haunted Mansion. The new queue is not at all fitting to the classic ride, and I don't like it at all. I just think that there are other things that need to be updated more than the Mansion needs a flashy new queue. I do like the new ending, though, and I think it fits in much better than the queue does.

Ellen's Energy Adventure was very boring and slow. It definitely needs to be updated. And let's not even get started on Stitch.

Ellen's Energy Adventure needs to be updated into something that's not basically a commercial for fossil fuels, especially since there's so much emphasis today on not using fossil fuels. On the subject of gasoline, I'm with you guys on the Speedway. A Cars theme would be nice, but if absolutely nothing else, PLEASE can they replace the cars with electric ones to get rid of the smell? I also think the Muppets need a little updating, even though I do think the show is absolutely hilarious- just change the end scene to make it look not quite so 80s.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned that I think needs a small refurb is actually my favorite ride in all of WDW. The animatronics on Splash Mountain are all old and jerky and I swear I saw a raccoon's eye spinning around in its socket yesterday, and you can see speakers blatantly visible through the entire ride. I don't think anything really needs to be changed, per se, they just really need to freshen it up a little bit. You can hear all the animatronics click when they move, for Pete's sake!

I think disney should update everything but keep the spirit of the rides. Little enhancments here and there woudl be great. Also cool things to help pass waiting in lines is awesome. I thought star tours was classic and didn't need the change. I also think most of fantasyland doesn't need it. They could throw in a beauty and the beast or even treasure planet.

Self proclaimed Muppet freak here and I would like to point out that I agree this movie is perhaps outdated but as it is the final project of the great Jim Henson it holds a special place. (Just like Jungle cruise as an original attraction)

Find a way to update maybe but remove NEVER!!

Journey into Narnia : Prince Caspian in Disney Studios. The movie came and went in 2008. It's a nice place to escape the sun & heat, but this space could be better used to promote a more current Disney venture. Time to move on.

Does anybody else think that it is time to add a new rollercoaster to the MK. Space Mtn. is a staple and is fine. Thunder Mtn railroad yes another classic. But I just think they can leave the classics alone and add a new coaster. The MK is really in need of something that attracts teenagers and young adults 18-24. Yes the youngsters love MK. Alot of older adults love the memories of years past, but my kids 19 & 16 really dont find MK so exciting anymore. They would rather goto epcot with mission space, test track, soarin, and WS is now much more interesting. Plus HS has ToT, RnR, that are geared towards young adults. Thats my opinion, no need to trash, maybe upgrade some rides, but the big dollar disney could add a new coaster to MK.

The new Snow White Mine Ride is an indoor coaster, I believe.

I wish they would bring back the old Imagination ride....

Country Bears needs to be updated not replaced...

Stitch is a waste of time

really all I can think of

Not sure if I would consider the snow white ride a coaster, but if you read my post I was refering to addind a new coaster for older kids. More of a thrill ride coaster. Something that may actually scare or thrill somebody over the age of 10?

Just my opinion!

I think the poster was talking about the new coaster that is gonna be built in the FL expansion is gonna be an indoor coaster based on Snow white and the seven dwarfs...Mine train type deal

DD and I love the Stitch ride. We go on it several times a day when we are there. My kids even talked me into stuffed stitches at the end of the ride. I have saw Captain EO only one time and that was this past February. I love Michael back then. I guess I am weird. We don't even go on Splash (DD doesn't want to mess up her hair or make up :rotfl2: ) and we rode the Speedway cars once in 2008 and haven't been back on since. DD and I rode Big Thunder Mountain last trip and it was boring compared to RNR and TOT so we won't ride again next trip.

Speedway is one of the only things I would actually get rid of completly because there's so much space that could be used in its place.

Yeah, the speedway is definitely a throwback to traditional theme park/amusement park rides, but I don't think it has much of a place in a modern WDW. There are go-kart race places all over, you can do it anywhere. Seems popular though.

I think a lot of the rides need to be freshened up. Jungle cruise needs new animals and events for sure. Not necessarily huge changes, but the things they did for Spaceship earth and POTC were relatively subtle but made it interesting for long time riders. I guess so long as the majority of their business is new guests who rarely if ever return us repeaters will be second class. I was hoping for more "movie" rides that could be quickly replaced. They could change out TSM games, the muppet movie, the imagination film, and stuff like that pretty easily. RnRC could have a new band in the wait line, Star Tours could have different trips.

Nope.
MK is fine.
As you stated other parks have things for that age groups.
MK is more for kids and the kids in all of us. 1-15yr olds.
25-100year olds
Your right, 16-24 isn't a big focus group for MK
But that doesn't mean you can't have fun at WDW, there's plenty for everyone. Both in MK and at other parks. You happen to have that age group right now so that park isn't a big draw. But give it 5 years or so and that will change again.
I'd hate to see MK turn into say a Six Flags or even US geared towards that group. It's fine for what they do but it's not a huge draw (as their park numbers reflect)

As for Op question.

Maybe Update JC but no way replace it.
Or many of the other "old rides" its those rides that have created the magic and need to stay to keep with for the next generations to enjoy.
MK wouldn't be the same without Peter Pan, Dumbo, or IASM.

Other thoughts....

Update Speedway to a Cars theme. (obvious fit)

They missed another obivous when they updated PoC. Put in Black Pearl.

If anything make better use of existing space,

Like the former eatery in Adventureland that is always closed.

Use that area in Tomorrowland where the stage show use to be
(between CoP and Buzz)

Better use of Tomorrowland Noodle station (I think that's the name)

I'm pretty sure that the Jungle Cruise would be considered one of the "sacred attractions" of the Magic Kingdom. Touch it under pain of death.

I was just going to respond to the OP's remark about the Jungle Cruise as being fighting words. We love the Jungle Cruise and all of the quirky things that the skipper says. Just last night DH and I were watching a show where they were showing a waterfall which the characters were on the backside of...and of course I had to chime in and said "And look it's the backside of WATER" :rotfl:, then of course that led to DH and I into citing other favorite skipper lines.

As for the question in hand, I too think something should be done about Stitch, and I tend to agree that Peter Pan could use a bit of TLC too....don't get rid of it of course, but it could use some sprucing up.
