Is it possible and or worth it to repair a nexus 7 tablet? Oldest DS fell tonight and all 200 lbs centered on his knee which landed squarely on middle DS' BFF's tablet. He shattered the screen. The tablet is also not responding to touch. Totally an accident but the result of him doing something stupid and unnecessary so he's going to be paying to fix the problem. Before he buys the friend a new tablet I'd like toknow if anyone on here has any experience with repairing one and whether wed be better off just buying a new one.

Which generation is the tablet? The first gen can be found for around $150.

I would worry more about the impact to the motherboard and everything behind the screen, if it was a direct impact by a knee. I would replace it to be on the safe side. Most people I've seen with shattered screens could still use the touch feature.

Not sure on the generation of the tablet. It was bought last year for Christmas.

We've worked out a deal with the parents. They are going to replace the tablet and DS is going to rake their yard to pay for the tablet. Which given all the trees in the yard is a very fair trade of labor for $.

I wouldn't recommend repairing it, it would most likely cost more than its price. New Android tablet can cost less than $200

I had our Google Nexus repaired at a local cell phone repair place and it was around $125. It probably wasn't the greatest financial decision since a new one is only $199 and I could have gotten a used/refurbished tablet off of EBAY for around $140 and then sold the broken Nexus for parts but the shop is new in town and I've kind of been in a support local businesses sort of mood.

I had a terrible time even finding a place to repair it since most of the repair shops don't stock the parts. The place I went to had to order the part in.

Another vote here for "replace"... not worth the marginal cost difference, if repair would even be possible.
