renting wheelchairs?

Hi all -
My mom is recovering from surgery and still wants to come with us to DL.
We're staying at HoJos and I think we might consider renting a motorized wheelchair on our own. I know DL rents them too, but I was thinking about the walk back to the hotel most of all.
Has anyone rented their own wheelchair?
Thanks
PS - does DL have a list of the disabled entrances to the rides? Or are most the same?

We have rented a manual wheelchair at Deckerts. They were great, and I know they also rent ECVs. This time we might try OC Medical Supply because they rent pediatric size chairs and my son is on the small side.

I don't have their info with me, but I imagine if you did a google search you could find them. If not, PM me and I'll get you the info when I'm home.

Also, DLR does have a listing for how to enter the rides that aren't handicapped accessible. You can get the list at City Hall, or if you have time and want to plan ahead, you can contact guest services and they will send you one. We just got ours last week and it has been great to look at and remember where we go for each ride.

OC Medical's phone number is 714-956-4690. I have rented ECV's from them several times and only had an issue with one once--when I did have the issue, they had a replacement there within 15 minutes. Check out the DisAbilities board for more information. Given the circumstances I would certainly encourage you to get an ECV for your Mom. The walk from the hotel is the hardest part! Especially at night! She can always park it in stroller parking if she wants to get up and walk some while in the park.

And if she's not used to ECV's I would strongly encourage you to take her to a grocery or Costco that has them available for customers and let her practice to get the feel of how to use one.

Have a great trip!

I don't know how long you'll be ther but we got a qoute from Deckerts of $40 a day or $30 a day if you rent 3 or more days. (I think it was 3 but it might have been 4) When we got one from them in February that included taxes. My brother was very satisfied with his. He liked the fact that it had more of a basket on the front to hold stuff.

Thank you! Your answers were great and very helpful. I'm always so encouraged by the sharing that happens on the DIS!
I'll head on over to DISability next - but I'll try one more question - We've got a personal (manual) wheelchair that we'd thought we'd take along for airports, shopping, whatever, but mom doesn't want to 'burden' anyone with pushing (thus the ECV for the parks). If we wanted to use our own for the walk to DL is their a place to store/check ours while renting a DL EVC? Maybe I'll check out the DL rental rates to see if this is even worth trying (we'll be there 5 days so I don't think we'll beat $40/day at DL!)
Sooo much thanks!

The Disneyland rental rate is $45 a day plus a $20 deposit which is refundable. I don't know about storage but I do know the wheelchair place will charge your ecv even if it isn't theirs if needed. We are going for 5 days in June and renting from Deckerts for $150. Disneylands would be $225 so it's a $75 difference.

I fractured my pelvis last year right before my trip to Disneyland. I still went out! NO WAY I was going to miss my trip :cheer2:

I rented one of those electric chairs. If she feels up to it, do it. I was discharged from hospital 4 days before flying out to California. Not the best idea but I had A BLAST.

Have fun on your magical trip!

We rented an ECV last Dec for my mom...It was definitely a lifesaver. I think it would be much too hard to try to push anyone in a wheelchair around Disney. I had the hotel reserve it for me and the company had it in the lobby when she arrived (this was at the GCH), I would check with the hotel.
