Renting & Waitlist

Some friends of mine are looking into renting some points. I wish we had the points to rent to them, to save them from dealing with all of the "unknown", but since we stay in a constant state of borrowing - they'll have to rent from strangers. Anyway, they've been told they can not get the resort they want during the time they want it, but could have SSR during that time. They keep contacting us with questions and I mentioned they could take SSR and ask to be waitlisted for the resort they want. Then, I started wondering whether people who rent would even want to mess with that. What do you all think? Is it worth a try to ask to waitlist while renting???

I guess it would depend upon what the owner is willing to do. It could impact how many points are used and the owner would need to stay on top any changes and convey them to the renters.

My gut reaction is this would be pretty risky for the owner who is renting the ressie -- but I think it's one of those owner-perspective questions which is best answered by owners who actually rent.
