Hi all...I am in the process of looking for a place to rent for our next trip in November and have had quite a few owners contact me telling me they would let me rent their place for as low as 70.00/night...my question is...how do you know if you're being had or not...kwim...how can you trust that they are really the owners with these beautiful homes they are showing or whether they are a con. Are there many cons out there? I am so hesitant because of this and am afraid I am going to miss a good opportunity....

You need to be the one contacting them first. Here is the one we rent from, and it's a very short distance Disney!

Well I did a General Inquiry at fabvillas and everyone was contacting me...One response was from Terrace Ridge, a beautiful condo for 67.00...another was a house in Highland Reserve for 70.00 thru the owner not the Property man....Is Highland Reserve a nice area???? I am just afraid of getting scammed....what do you think?

I am not sure if any one could be absolute. There is a site I can give you that if you have the address or name of person you can go to the county records and look it up. Also on many of our own sites we have testimonials from other renters that leave their email addresses for you to follow up on.

Click on this site and agree and you can have the info you are looking for. I do not think in life as I grow older can you count on everything being what it says it is. On the Dis there are some home owners and maybe if they are famil;iar with the home and owner you can be reassured. Also there is insurance you can get on your vacation. Not sure $ but for your peace of mind it is worth it.
I as a home owner every time my man/co tells me the home is ok to be able to send back the security deposit a sigh of relief is let loose. Try to ask as many questions and get a feel for the owners. We are very proud of our homes and love to tell any one interested about them. Gooluck and I hope you find a great home. Deb

Thanks for the advice...I went to the website and typed in the gentlemans name..NICK BOXLEY and the address 1700 NORTH HAMPTON and nothing came back....Is there a board on this site that I can post to find out who owns and is willing to rent.

Thanks,

Kelley

No they do not allow it. I just typed in my name then my husbands and we did not come up? I typed my exact address and a search did come up. I do have to say that I never give the exact address out until we have a contract with the renters.

I totally understand your hesitation with booking privately and I have a website you can use if you want to email me privately. As this is my first post I am not allowed to post the website. We usually stay on site but had the opportunity to spend an entire summer in Kissimmee and certainly a hotel wouldn't have been feasible in that situation. It was our first time renting privately and I couldn't be happier with the condo we rented from this website. It is a small family run management company and the owners are absolutely incredible. It was scary to take that step as there are so many websites out there and it was just by luck I picked this one. I had visions of sending a deposit to someone and coming to Kissimmee and finding an empty lot!!! I can't remember what we paid but our property was absolutely beautiful. Not your typical rental. A three bedroom condo in Windsor Palms. I believe the prices are somewhere in the vicinity of $95.00/night but owners are sometimes more flexible if they have availability...you never know and it doesn't hurt to ask!

When we rented a home last year I took the advice of many from another dis board (the Orlando and area one). They recommended a website called www.orlandovillas.com and a sister website www.onlinefloridavillas.com . These websites do verify each homeowner so they are legit homeowners. Not saying you couldn't get a home that may be substandard, but I think most are pretty good. There is a forums site on the above links and you can read many posts from homeowners who really value their homes. There are a TON of great ones out there. We did have a good one in High Grove last year. As well, these websites have a map for you that tells you where each subdivision is as there are many out there now!!

Good luck ... and check out the Orlando and area board as there have been some recent posts regarding condo, townhomes, and home rentals :)

http://www.thedibb.co.uk Here is a list of the houses and villas in the Orlando area. I stayed out by Highland Reserve and it was too far out for my liking! I understand what you mean about them contacting you. You just have to have faith in most people over the internet. I've rented quite a few times and I've never had a problem with any owners. Ask lots of questions and get phone numbers so you can verify their information.
Good luck!

Edited because: The map is copyrighted you have to go to their website to look at the map!
