Let's say I purchase 150 points with some banked points. Our annual plan might be 1 to 2 trips generally totaling somewhere between 145-162 points.

If one year I needed a very small number of points like 12 or so… how easy is it to pay and get /transfer these from another member?

Getting small transfers from another member won't be very easy as DVC only allows one transfer per year now (either in or out). So most members aren't going to want to use their one-time transfer with a really small number of points.

In your case, you would probably have to "rent" enough points from another member to cover however many nights you need to complete your stay and then link it to the nights you have reserved using your own points. You would still need to check-out/in a second time but probably wouldn't have to change rooms.

You can always borrow the 12 points from the next Use Year's allocation.

Keep doing that each year you are short (borrowing from the next year's points) until you can do a larger transfer say 75-125 points to 'replace' your borrowed points, or for an extra or larger trip. Those #s of points should be easier to transfer in than say 10 or 20.......

Just another option!

You should also know that transfers must be without any consideration (payment) changing hands according to the documents we all sign at the time of purchase. Probably doesn't get enforced in practice, but it is a requirement/regulation.
