Renting Points

So we just decided to book a quick jaunt to DisneyWorld in January. To lower the cost, we are going to try and rent points. I just submitted requests thru David's as well as the DVC rental store. What are the chances that there will be availability less than 6 months away? This is our first attempt at renting points so not sure what to expect. Is it just the luck of the draw? Or is it pretty easy to get availability? We requested BLT, GF, BWV, or AKV, in that order.

To accurately answer your question, when in January is important & what size villa you want. Early January through marathon weekend is pretty booked, after that your chances are better.

I agree with @sndral ... it does depend on the accommodation size and time of the month.

But assuming you are looking for a studio, your best chance is probably AKV. If you are looking for Standard View studios to lower the points needed, well those are tough in any of the resorts at less than 7 months for almost the entire year.

Renting points through Davids is not so much the luck of the draw as the amount of advance planning along with resort choice, date flexibility and room category flexibility. The best planning is one year out so you can get an owner at one of the resorts to book at the 11 month mark (only owners of a resort can book that resort 11 months in advance). Now you are competing not only with those resort owners but every DVC owner who may want to stay at one of those resorts at that time.

You may want to add Saratoga Springs to your list to give you the best shot at getting something.

As indicated, if you are going later in January you may have a decent chance of getting what you want. The first couple of weeks have become very popular for DVC reservations. Good luck!

That's Pro Bowl week in conjunction with the Epcot Arts Festival.

You also have to look at the events going on.

We are staying at BWV Jan 20-27. I tried to modify my reservation last week and saw very little availability.

I knew the Epcot Arts Festival is going on...but the Pro Bowl? Boo. May need to change my dates.

The Pro bowl is after you leave, but people will start showing up towards the end of your stay. We were down from the 23-30th this January. We got there and it was just people everywhere in football gear. It got worse at the week went on, culminating with the players in the parade before FoF on Friday. Saturday afternoon things cleared out as everyone went to ESPN.

Also, there are tour groups. They are plentiful in January.

We got a BLT studio 7 months out, we were exactly at the 7 month mark...

Thanks everyone for your help. I heard back from both DVC rental store and David's this morning. DVC rental store had two of the three resorts we requested, and David's did not have any that we requested but offered up several alternatives. Impressed with the turnaround and professionalism. Thanks again.
