I hope this is the right spot to ask a question. If its not, I will apologize now.

We are interested in renting points for our trip! We plan to do a split stay. My question is, I understand the 7 month window. May I ask on prior to them or do I have to wait until that time? From what I have read DVC owners can rent any resort for me then. Thanks so much!

The best scenario would be to try to find a member willing/able to assist prior to 7 months, but if that won't work I'd try to line everything up in advance if you are looking at a busy time or popular resort (early December, Food&Wine, Thanksgiving, Christmas).

As Doc posted, if what you want is "popular", the best chance of getting what you want is to get it booked before the 7 month window opens. Since you said you are interested in a split stay (I am assuming two different resorts), you might have to work with two different owners.

Before the 7 month window opens, only members who own at a resort may make reservations there.

Some members own at more than one resort.

Thanks for the replies! Yes, we plan to stay at 2 different resorts over a 10 night period. I am not sure if the 7 month window opens the 1st ay of the 7 month or exactly 7 months from the ay you would like to travel? Someone told me I had to wait exactly 7 months from the date? I was hoping to ask on the 1st day of the month. I hope this makes sense, I noticed my post was edited to exclude dates so I am trying to ask the question without break the rules. Thanks so much! We are looking forward to our 1st DVC stay, now to convince DH to buy.....

Since you will be staying at two different resorts, each segment will have to be booked separately. The 7 month window opens 7 months prior to the check-in day. So for example, if you want to check in on 12/1/2013, the 7 month window opens on May 1, 2013. Then, to book the 2nd segment, you would have to wait until 7 months prior to the check-in day for that part of your stay.

It's OK to look for someone to rent to you ahead of the window. That way you can agree on terms and the member can be ready to make your reservation as soon as the window opens.

But, and there is always a but in there. We can only look at available reservations at non home resorts at the 7 month window, not before. So as OP has said your best bet would be to pick your times and resorts and look for owners that can book home resorts for you before the 7 month window. Especially at peak times.

OP, is there a reason you're waiting for the seven-month window to open? If you can find people to rent from who own at the resorts you want to stay at, you can book as early as 11 months out.

No, the only reason I have is because I thought it might be easier with a split stay. I thought 7 month window refered to the amount of months. I now understand its exactly 7 months date to date. I guess, I will go take a look at the rent board.

When I rent points, I love working with someone who is planning far in advance as long as you are committed to your dates.
