Renting points, what if an offer comes out later?

We're about to book to rent points 1/25/15-2/1/15. Obviously there are no offers yet for that time period. What if an offer comes out for January? We wouldn't take a room-only, obviously, but what if there is free dining or play/stay/dine offered? Can we book the tickets and dining plan, linked to our DVC reservation, and get the deal?

I believe you would have to book a hotel through Disney to get any deal. DVC members don't get free dining when they use points.

This is correct. FD requires you to pay rack rate for the room, which must be booked through Disney and renting points is between the DVC owner and the renter, with Disney not being involved at all. Also, as the above poster said, DVC owners cannot get FD when staying on points as they have to book a package through Disney to get it.

Thanks everyone! Trying to figure out whether to press our luck or not. Basically we can get the DVC points + DDP + UT tickets for the same price as a room-only offer at a Value (we think), but if there's a stay/play/dine (likely) or free dining (unlikely) for our trip that would be about $1000 and $2000 cheaper respectively. But that wouldn't be available until probably September or October. (I do have the Disney Visa.)

You have to decide where you prefer to stay Value or Deluxe. Renting DVC points is a great savings compared to rack rates at the Deluxes. But you are traveling during value season so chances are high there will be some sort of discounts offered. If you wait until September or October and decide to rent points then your DVC hotel options might not be what you wanted. Which hotel are you considering renting points for?
