Renting Points through David's vs. DVCRentalStore?

This is great news, non DVC rental related but anytime I get a venmo payment from a friend I cringe because I didnt want to go over 600 in year.
If it's "friends and family" and not "goods and services" they aren't supposed to even include that in the total ($600 or $5K). But that's a big part of the concern because what if it accidently is included and how will processors like Venmo discern properly? As you said though, thankfully the threshold is $5K this year and I think it will ultimately end being higher than $600 permanently because of all the pushback. Here's to hoping!

As a renter I had a terrible experience with David’s for an Aulani booking in March 2020. When Aulani shut down they were not offering refunds, and suggested we accept a credit good for a year despite them not being able to provide what was listed in my contract. I had to do a charge back with my credit card and got my money back that way. I think if I ever tried renting points at at DVC resort (instead of a cash stay) in the future I’d be less likely to use David’s because of how poorly they treated their customers and wanted to keep all our money during the pandemic.

I remember a really long thread going at the time about this as well as their treatment to owners. They were attempting to get refunds from owners for initial payments and/or not paying out the final payments. Even worse, as you mentioned, they weren't giving renters any type of refund so they were basically trying to get the money back for themselves. And in the process, they were violating their intermediary agreement with the owners (or at least attempting - many owners reported pushing back and there wasn't much David's could do).

As an owner reading those stories I was very thankful I'd only used the DVC Rental Store because they never tried anything like that. They even paid me out according to the terms of the contract even though I'd received all the points back from DVC for a large (400 point) cancelled reservation during the closure. On my suggestion, I worked something out with them so they wouldn't suffer such a loss but they definitely never asked nor tried to sway from the terms of the intermediary agreement.

I've heard that David's has since altered their intermediary agreement with owners to include "force majeure" language. So if anything like that happens again, they will have legal recourse to demand refunds from owners and/or not make final payouts. No thank you, I'll never rent with them as an owner.

I used the DVC rental store to rent a confirmed reservation I was able to set an amount of $20 per point. I will pay for the convenience of not having to deal with 50 " is it available " and "will you take $12 for it" inquiries.
Not to mention the "I want a BWV Standard studio, can you book it for me with your Saratoga points?"
