Renting Points/Reservation

I totally agree! This october will be our 3rd time renting points. I never try and barter with the owner. The family always wants to stay at either the BCV or the BWV. I'm happy just to get in there at the reduced rate of renting points so I never question.

I've dealt with some great owners( one in particular ;) ) and have never had a problem. (knock on wood....:rolleyes1 ) I'd rather go with someone with a higher post count also. I wouldn't feel comfortable renting from someone with a single post count.

You are being very wise. I rented before I bought, I paid top dollar, she was great to deal with.

We have a reservation at the end of September for VWL and we're not going to be able to use it. I was laid off from my job four months ago and we've finally admitted we just can't afford it. Would it be easier to rent out the reservation as is or try and accomodate a request?

I'm so sad to even be doing this, it makes me sick. :sad2:

Better than wasting points though as we don't have anyone in our family who can go.

Would it be possible to bank the points? It could make your contract more attractive to a buyer if you decide to sell it.

Unfortunately we borrowed 250 points from our next use year. I wish we could bank them though. We've mulled over selling but don't have the heart do it yet. I guess we'll see how things are by next year.

Telling four kids they aren't getting to go to Disney World this year was bad enough. :sad2:

It is easier to look for someone on the rent/trade board that is wanting a VWL reservation that your points will work to fit their need. The further out the potential renter is wanting to book, the better chance you will have of finding availability or you can fill any resort within the 7 month window if it is available. I find that if there is not a lot of time in the request, I ended up making a lot of needless phone calls.

Before you cancel your reservation, go to the rent/trade board and see if anyone is posting your dates for a Reservation Wanted ad. That would really be nice if that were so.

If you can't find either of those, then bank the points (if you are still within your banking timeframe) rent a new reservation next year. Just keep looking, potential renters are on there. VWL owners are hard to find. I would not give the reservation away.

If all those fail, you can transfer your points to another owner. You have several options. You can post a Transfer Thread on the Rent/trade Board, you cannot post your reservation until you are within, I believe it is 30 days, by then your points will go into Holding if you cancel the reservation. You do not want to get into this situation.

We must have been typing at the same time. I am so sorry you are not getting to go. You are right you can't bank the points, you can't transfer them either.
I would find a renter for sure. Don't let them go to waste. If you want to PM me feel free.

definitely try to rent your reservation - that say when I post a reservation get a bunch of people wanting me to change it.

in your terms ask for half the money immediately. tell them you will cancel if you don't receive it - what 10 to 15 days after you mail them the confirmed reservation and contract.

if you get half the money now - they are less likely to cancel on you - because they got a better deal.

be sure to use a contract.

most of my renters contact me. although do use
www.myresortnetwork.com

you can definitely ask for $12 to $15 per point there and have takers. Especially if you compare what Disney will charge them for the same time.

also try
www.redweek.com - it will cost a little more - but it does get more action.

try to rent what you have - but be prepared to go for another resort.

if anyone ask for bcv or bwv during the wine/food festavial - make them aware that this is just about impossible to get. you need 11 months to make that reservation.

so sorry you are having money troubles. refinanced my condo - got a better interest rate and paying less than I was.

Thanks for the tips Spiceycat! I listed it on myresortnetwork.

How willing are you to break up a reservation and change it for people? I'd like to sell it as a whole if I can but some is better than none if it comes down to it.
