If I rent points from another DVC owner, can I use them as if they were my home resort?

IE-- I have 100 points at OKW, but need 175 for a planned vacation. So I rent/transfer points from another member, say SSR, to get to 175. Can I use the points for a ressie made at my home resort 11 months out? Or, do I have to wait for the 7-month window since part of the points came from a different resort?:confused3

How does something like this work?

renting is not the same as transferring.

if you rent a reservation from another DVC owner, it will not matter whether you are a DVC member or not. they will own the reservation and you will not be allowed to even confirm the reservation with MS. their home resort window applies.

if you transfer pts from another DVC member, their home resort and UY will still apply (so in your example, you would have to wait till the 7 month window), but you can use the pts to make reservations that you control.

OK -- I think I get it. If I don't have enough points, I'll have to make the ressie within the 7-month window. Do I have to have all the points transferred before I can make the ressie?

yes, you would either have to wait till the 7 month window or else transfer in pts from the same home resort.

yes, you would have to have all the pts transferred in before making a reservation.

other info, just in case:

you only get one transfer, either in or out, per use year.

you can bank pts that are transferred in to you, for booking in the next UY.

if you have 100 pts at OKW and need to make a reservation using 175 pts, it's easiest to borrow your own pts from the next UY rather than dealing with either transferring or renting pts, but i assume that's not an option here...

It depends...

If you rent from another OKW owner you'll be able to book at the 11-month window. If you rent from a non-OKW owner the reservation will have to be booked at the 7-month window.

Also, if the other owner makes the reservation for you it will need to be for a set number of nights...not just the points you are short. For example, you want to stay for 5 nights in a 2BR that is 22 points per night (110 points in all). You have 100 points and need to rent the rest. You would actually have to rent 22 points from the other member and use just 88 points of your own. You would make a reservation for 4 nights (88 points) and the other member would have to make a reservation for one night (22 points). You wouldn't be using all of your 100 points but it would have to be done this way since it is two separate reservations.

If, on the other hand, the other member transfers the points to you, you could make a reservation for the 5 nights and would only need to rent the 12 points you are short. As the PP said, you can only transfer points in or out of your account once per year.
