Renting points - Capital One Rewards?

Hi,
I am toying with the idea of renting some DVC points for our trip next year. :confused3I was thinking of going through David's since it's so reputable. I'm just wondering if anyone has used their Capital One Rewards points to use a purchase eraser going this way? I know when we stayed last April, everything we booked through Disney came up as eligible for a "purchase eraser" so we were able to pay most of our stay at the Art of Animation via our Capital One miles. :thumbsup2 It would be great if by using David's DVC to book, this would work again. (FINGERS CROSSED!)
TIA!

Payment to David's would show as 'Capitol Technologies - DVCR' per his website. What merchant type they fall under for CC transactions would control how the transaction is categorized for CC rewards.

You aren't renting from Disney. You are renting from an independent contractor.

Perhaps I should have been more specific. I am aware that in order to qualify for travel redemption on Capital One, their merchant code needs to fall under travel. Since one "could" say they are acting like a travel agent, their merchant code could possibly fall under travel and qualify. Even the taxis in NYC fall under this category. Along with so many other things, not just hotels or flights. I was simply stating how wonderful it worked out last year that we were able to use our Venture Points to pay a large sum of our stay when booking through Disney. :cool1:

I am also aware that I am not renting from Disney. (It would make it much easier if I was!:hyper:)My question was if David's would qualify for a travel purchase?

I guess my revised, very specific question is: Does anyone know what merchant code David's DVC uses when charging you for the rental? Or if there is anyone out there that has been successful in redeeming Venture Points for rentals through David's?:thanks:

Well, we're mostly DVC owners on this board, so we're less likely to have experience being renters. You might be more successful asking your question on the Budget Board. There are a number of travel hacking posters on that forum and it's possible that someone might know the answer.

It might - per the website, purchases made from airlines, hotels, rail lines, car rental agencies, limousine services, bus lines, cruise lines, taxi cabs, travel agents and time shares are generally considered to be travel purchases and availability for redemption is based on the merchant category code assigned to them by the merchant. I was surprised one time when a lift ticket from Snowshoe was as it came through a "resort fee". You could try calling but I doubt they'll be able to tell you in the call center. However, the room will work the same as prior one, everything you charge everything back will be eligible.

And uber falls under taxi cabs....

I'd be interested in the answer if you could report back after it hits.

I do not have a Capital One card, but I did charge a rental to a Chase Visa card last year. It posted as DVC Rentals - Captech on my statement and on my year end summary it was classified under travel. Certainly not a direct answer to your question, but perhaps a positive indication. Good luck!

Just an update to anyone who is also looking to redeem their Capital One travel points, David's codes as travel. (even though their representative told me they didn't) I was able to use the purchase eraser for my David's rental contract! I actually received an email from Capital One asking me if I wanted to redeem my points for my most recent travel purchase. YAAAAYYY!!!! :cool1:

Thanks for the update. As both an employee and venture cardholder it's nice to hear of a positive customer experience.
